From what I've been told by one of my D&D obsessed mates, they also seem to be trying to retire the Planescape setting along with a few other obscure ones so that might provide yet MORE complications

I've already stated that. They have the right to produce D&D ganes of their own. Yet that doesn't grant them rights to the titles produced by previous license holders. Hasbro can't just hand them Interplay's output. It doesn't work like that.
Most of the games were sold to Atari by Interplay. But apart from the the Polish release Atari has done nothing with the Planescape. Which would suggest that, in one way or another, their grasp on this highly sought after game is tentative at best. Interplay's logos appearing on the re-release would suggest they have some kind of a deal with Interplay but don't have full rights to the title themselves.

I hope you manage to make master of orion 3 work on seven, vista and xp. But be aware, it seems to work, but when you play it for real, a lot of nasty bugs appears, mainly in the planet tab (where you administrate the planet, build starships and upgrade the facilities, etc) that some of the windows take a lot of time to appear or just not appear. And the worst of them, in the planet list, when you have so many planets there, it just crashes the game to the desktop with a DirectX error.
Even the last version released by gamersgate have these bugs on the three OSs I listed above.

Atari published it back when they were known as Infogrames. They owned Atari then took the name for themselves.

They are very good old games.

Master of Orion II if by far the best in series. I still have the original box and strategy guide. As for expectations....I must say Planetscape: Torment would be a dream come true for me. Anyways, I'm sure we'll see tons of releases to keep our hands full.

Microprose? Atari has the rights for them? OMGS!!! Microprose and MPS were my favourite companies back then. The amount of games, excellent games too, they have....drools!

coolio... I have the CDs for MOO II, planescape, and BG, but still looking forward to other gems that might come our way.

A very dark day in gaming history. Atari was always a badly run company and it was always run by complete pricks but it was a sad thing to happen to one of the legends of gaming. What Infogrammes did was basically kill Atari then wear it's skin like Buffalo Bill.
It is about as unpalatable as a Korean company buying a Japanese gaming giant and renaming them SNK Playmore.
