Soo, who played it, who plays it and who sits behind it all night long, perfecting his deck?
I must say I'm really impressed by this great game, introduced to me by a certain member of this forum, who doesn't wish me to reveal his name. (read: I don't remember for crying out loud!)
Such a great mix of tactical strategy, card game - and all of that wrapped in games that don't take long to play (one game is about an hour, but it can be longer with a bigger maps) - therefore, it doesn't frustrate you (or at least me :D ) by losing after a 3 hours long game, which always turned me away from most turn-based strategy games...
I simply love general randomeness of the game (surprisingly, as I usually hate it), which gives you different tactical challenges every single game you play, by cards you draw and by random generation of map, as well as random choice of the cult on it!
I still remember how I defeated my opponent using a single infiltrated unit, as well as pretty big war between me and my enemy, ended swiftly by my air-force. And I'm not mentioning certain game where I was ready to give my enemy a final blow... And some freaking cult blew up whole map by they doomsday device
For those poor souls who never heard of the game:

And now...
DISCUSS!
lol i've def not ever heard of this one looks interesting thou

Sigh, forgotten already. :)
Yeah, it's an awesome game when you get into it. There are so many cool options, so much stuff to do, so much variation (especially when you start making your own decks),... I love it.
New players (or those who are interested in finding out more about it) should have a look at the play guide on Dubious Quality:

(obviously, start on part one - part six is the last one, with links to all the earlier parts)
I'm also looking forward to Solium Infernum, from the same developer. It'll include the only thing I felt was missing from Armageddon Empires - hotseat multiplayer. :-)

Sorry about forgetting, I'm awful with names :D I was sure you'd reply to that, so I'd find it out :D
And diplomacy! Yeah, it looks cool, can't wait. And I'm simpy not able to NOT praise him for setting of the both games. Postapo future and the second game in Hell? ... Hell yeah! :D
And I look forward to some beautiful pieces of artwork as well... He certainly can do some neat stuff
Looks like a great game. I DL the demo, but I have to stop and read the manual as I have no idea how to place any cards as I do not have enough of anything yet.
I do wish the game was $20.00 and not $30.00 though as it is hard to spend that on a game. I wish there were a Discount Code to use. I looked online but to no avail.
Thanks for the links guys.

Rather read play guide Zeewolf posted, it explains everything perfectly. Manual is a bit of a mess IMO.
And yes, price IS a bit too high, but... I had a loads and loads of fun with it so far, so in the end, it's justified
I downloaded the demo, but couldn't figure anything out on my own. Thank you for that guide!
The game looks cool but I wonder if they ever put anything on sale as I just cannot part with $30.00 for this game (but I want to).
It would be great to have 20% off of the price.
So, does anyone know if they ever have sales?
Thanks
It's a great game, but you need to read the docs. Well worth the price.
Solium Infernum looks even more awesome though, the diplomatic system in particular.

I couldn't find anything on their forums, so I don't think so :-/ However, if you're willing to sacrifice a single game from gog, it might be well worth it :D

Yeah, I am wrestling with it. I know for some it is no big deal, but as the first of the year, I put myself on a budget and only have a very limited amount to spend on discretionary items.
It may take another month to save enough, but man I really want to buy Gothic II, and Alien Nations as well. Choices, Choices, Choices!!! :o)
I finally 'discovered' AE late last year and absolutely love it! Every time you play the thing it's a whole new game, especially once you expand beyond just playing as humans every single run through. Really well done game.
And Solium Infernum is on my 'Must Buy' list for this year based on AE.
I'll buy it when multiplayer is implemented! 30$ for single player card game, even if it is really polished is not worth it, in my opinion as well.

I wrote the company and asked if their products (AE) ever go on sale. I have yet to hear back, but if they don't it will not be the first company to not respond.
I recently wrote Introversion Software asking if Uplink: Hacker Elite had any DRM on it, and I never heard back.
The amount of hours I've spent enjoying Armageddon Empires ensures that it was worth every penny. It may look overpriced compared to other indie games, but it's just plain awesome, and that's that.
Besides, try visiting Shrapnel Games or Matrix Games, or any other online publisher of complex wargames like AE, and you'll find their prices are much higher. The reason is that this is a niche market - even at a much lower price, AE isn't going to get the kind of sales a casual indie game will get, because it's aimed at a small target group. So it needs a higher price to ensure that the devs stay in business even if they don't sell the same kind of numbers that casual games sell.
