Thanks for all the responses. I think I may pick it up for $2.50. You can't beat that.

As for the GFWL version, I'll bet any limits wouldn't matter if you make an offline profile. Then again, I've never bought a digital GFWL game, so it may be different.

GFWL games with internet activation (which is not all of them) use the same system as Windows, roughly. There is a limit within time frames, but you can contact them to get more. At least that is what I was told.

If this says SecuROM and then uses GFWL I don't see how it could be any better than just using the Steam version.

I don't think the GamersGate version uses GFWL, but I agree, that'd be really disappointing.

Infact.. I don't remember either. Fear 2.. It just was serial.. I remember nothing of games for windows thing.
Well, I bought the package. FEAR and FEAR 2 both need to be activated only, so... yeah. :(

"activated only" through SecuROM, or did they require GfWL activation?

I am assuming he meant activate online, given the frown. They didn't say DRM free though, so that was a given and I'm not sure why he thought otherwise.
Yeah, it was an online activation. It was extremely similar to EA games like Dead Space, actually, except I don't think you need to deactivate them like other games. No GFWL, though.

And as far as why I thought it'd be DRM-free, I didn't. I knew SecuROM would be involved, and I don't mind it, because it has never once done anything bad to my computers. I just hate needing an Internet connection to activate what I paid for. Games like the Penumbra collection on GamersGate also list SecuROM, but don't require online activations to play any of them.
