Wishbone: With any luck he's seen the light, and will preach the wonders of the metric system to his fellow Americans once he returns home :-D
Not that I think it'll help.
IAmSinistar: I think both systems are fine and can usually do rough conversions in my head without much trouble. The only metric system scale I don't like is Centigrade (Celsius). While perfect for scientific uses, it is too narrow for talking about the weather.
Funny, to me it is much easier to think that if e.g. the temperature is over 0 C, the ice and snow outside will be melting, and if it rains, it will be probably water. And if it is under 0 C, snow and ice. At least in countries where there is a proper winter that point of temperature is quite important. I have no idea what is 0 C in Fahrenheits, probably something silly like 35.773687362 Fahrenheit. :)
I don't feel Celsius degrees are too "coarse" for talking about weather. 20 or 21 Celsius degrees feels the same to me, and if you really felt it is not fine enough scale, nothing prevents you from saying e.g. 20.5 C. :)
As for feet vs meters, the metric system is so much easier. 1km is 1000 meters, 1 meter is 100 centimeters, 1 centimeter is 10 millimeters etc. No wonder feet and such are not used in physics, and similarly they make normal life much easier as well. For example, if someone is 186 cm tall, you can tell right away he is 1m 86cm tall, or 1.86m. Try the same with feet and inches, better to take out that calculator while you are at it. :)
Now, if only date and time wasn't so complicated as well... I would prefer if each day had e.g. 10 hours, which were divided to 100 minutes, which where each divided to 100 seconds, etc. etc.
