Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie

It's a pretty good dark movie whether you like the franchise or not.

I don't know. I like the franchise a lot and I found it quite uniteresting. But animation is very good.
Watership Down.

Creator of many a childhood nightmare. Protip: cel animation and bunnies do NOT automatically mean it's intended for kids.
I have a soft spot for the following:

The Maxx
Aeon Flux
The Tick
The Amazing Spider-Man (90s one)
Iron-Man
Fantastic Four
Skeleton Warriors
Coraline
Planet Hulk
Transformers The Movie (not sure if you'd consider it Western really, but it's awesome period)
Batman Under the Red Hood
The Dark Knight Returns
Despicable Me
Wall-E
Megamind
Secret of NIMH
Both original animated Hobbit/LotR works

I did like Sean Pertwee's performance in it, though (as a 40k fan) I found it a bit meh. Still, I have a copy just because it IS 40k, though it annoys me (as an Ork player) they didn't have any goddamn Orks in it! >.<

The reactions of you Vitek and Theta_Sigma is fairly typical of the 40K crowd about the movie. They find it meh or go scream about what's wrong lore wise.

So what do a none 40K know it all think? I think the movie can stand on its own.

I for one am very much a 40k fan and liked the movie. I didn't love it, the story was simplistic (well... The story was exactly what you'd expect of 40k story, sadly. What is it with WH 40k writers and chaos all the time?) and the graphics were fairly average (I know, budget.) But I've had fun while watching it. It was cool. I'd like to see a big-budget company grab the franchise, even if the butchered the lore, all I'd want is for the to keep the grim atmosphere and 'there is only war.'

I was going to recommend those as well.

I personally liked The Head, not sure if it's quite dark enough though. But, what the hell, a series where a guy has an alien that's taken up residence in his head is dark, right?

EDIT: That is assuming if it's still around, I posted thinking that one of the links had it.

Archer - Over the top 'Bond movie' like series. Pure awesomeness.

Budget blah. Check out what the fans are doing:

Glad to meet fellow fans of the Maxx. Yeah, without spoiling the OP I love the dark themes present both in the series and the original comic. They really didn't censor anything for the TV adaptation and I love them for that. Sad story, but so, so good.

The head was real hit and miss for me. Yeah I liked it at times, but at other times it felt like it was just being creepy for creepy-s sake only. I had almost put it, but opted not to. But, all that being said, I can see why you'd find it good, it did have it's moments (even for me).

I'm sure you can still find links to it, either on YouTube or otherwise, and I'm pretty sure there were at the very least DVD cuts of the series. All of the MTV Freakshow block for that matter.

I am also glad to meet another fan of NIMH (it's a shame the sequel sucks) and the original animated Tolkien productions, I loved the animation and how well they kept the story together despite the considerable lack of time vs the Peter Jackson adaptations.

I remember I used to stay up late watching that series. I never did get into Aeon Flux though, not sure why.

IIRC that was the general time frame when MTV was still airing The State as well. Not a cartoon, but brilliant nonetheless. It's not surprising that most of the cast has gone on to do other work.

As far as cartoons go. I loved The Critic, same producer as the Simpsons, definitely deserved a longer run. Ren and Stimpy, has some of the best animation of anything in the last 30 years. Well, the first couple seasons before they ditched Spumco anyways.

Oh yeah, Sea Lab 2021 and Venture Brothers. IIRC Sea Lab 2021 pretty much just reused already created footage from Sea Lab 2020, but brilliant nonetheless.

I could make an extremely long list of bad cartoons.

EDIT: Inspector Gadget is a lot of fun.

Love the franchise and found the whole thing terrible regarding it's WH40K. The animation is atrocious, just compare it to the Dawn of War 2 intro.
