I hadn't heard of this game until it was mentioned in another topic. I saw the trailer for it today, and I have to say, this is everything I've ever hoped to find in a horror game. I have to see if my computer can handle the game, and if it does, oh man. Midnight playings and sleeping with a night light for the next month and a half. :D
MINOR SPOILER
Ok, so I got to the prison, and in one of the rooms is a naked, dead body. I was a little disturbed by being in the same room as it and being chased around by those flayed bodies, so I was a bit wary, but also, in an immature fashion, I went closer to the rear of the body just for kicks to see if any other "bits" were modeled.
When I got up close to look, the left leg brought itself inward as if to be modest and cover itself up. Scared the living shit out of me so I left the room and closed the door and got out of there before the damn thing started doing anything else.

stonebro: They could also have priced the game differently, say 19.99 euros instead of 14.99, or even 24.99.

I agree that they priced it too low. But it certainly made it an insta-buy rather than the usual 'wait for a reduction'. Still, I hope they work something out, as I doubt this is a game that could be ported to consoles successfully due to the interaction with the environment. So apart from waiting until it's viable to do a sale it seems there's little they can do.

Wow, okay I never noticed that.

What kind of evil person would leak a review copy? It's like being entrusted with something so precious to the developers isn't sacred anymore.
I hate to say it, but this keeps happening with the games released DRM free. There's plenty of evidence now to suggest to companies that releasing a game unprotected is a huge mistake. I see a future where a constant internet connection requirement is the norm rather than the exception.

Leaked review copies have been the standard since the idea of review copies materialized. Nowadays it is common to include tracking information in the review copy, but this is usually found and removed before a release, rendering it useless.
It's quite a dilemma when the people who themselves are dependent upon the game industry (game reviewers, fansites, and magazines), choose to rip off said game industry by leaking their entrusted review copies. Obviously if it gets known which outlet it was that leaked the copy, there will be lawsuits and the rolling of heads, but unfortunately it is often impossible to prove.

Plus in their blog post Frictional mentioned that all the tracking information was removed before it went online, so whoever did it was a sneaky bastard.
Just finished it. Scariest game ever.
(last few levels were spectacularly unsettling)
some small spoilers below, nothing story-related though, just the gameplay mechanics

chautemoc: I can't think of any real flaws. Honestly.

I was kinda annoyed with not being able to carry candles, and that you weren't allowed to interact with everything - some boxes for example, and I was disappointed that you couldn't move certain bigger objects like tables, as they showed in the trailer. Of course, you don't really have to anyway, but the physics engine is really neat and it would have been nice to do that.
Of course, the bigger gripe is still with not being able to carry light sources. It took quite a huge amount of suspension of disbelief to live with that, but of course, the amount of tinderboxes are quite generous, and anyway, I wouldn't want to carry a torch around too, knowing it would make me get seen more easily. Besides, it's not hard to see in the dark either - I really like how your eyes adapt to the dark, very cool.
I'd give it a 9/10 just for the above-mentioned gripes, but otherwise, story is top notch, scares are amazing. I've played quite a number of scary games, and by far, Thief 3's Cradle level was the king, until I played Amnesia. No fight there. The Cradle level lasted me about 3 hours. Amnesia scared me consistently throughout for 15 hours.
(PS: I'd love to compare Amnesia and Fatal Frame, since people have said before that Fatal Frame was the scariest game ever made. Unfortunately, I've never played Fatal Frame, so I can only base my comment on Amnesia being the scariest game ever on games that I've played. How do both games hold up to each other, for those who have played FF?)

chautemoc: I can see why people wouldn't like Daniel's voice but I was rather fond of it.

I like Danny's voice too. I thought it was good; not brilliant, but good.

Wraith: Which is a bit insane as I would say this is a $40 title at $20.

This is the most value-for-money game I paid for this year. I have watched scarier movies for nearly half the price I paid, and come out of the cinema not feeling chilled to the marrow at all.

Fatal Frame series is scarier, but for different reasons. They are two distinctly different style of games.
Amnesia is a game where you have no weapons, have to constantly hide, and builds on tension and uses the environment more than the monsters to scare you.
Fatal Frame's scares come from haunting and ghosts, with little coming from the actual environment, as well as the tension of having to actually fight the ghosts. Here are some clips as an example:
Fatal Frame 2 early cutscene
Fatal Frame 3 shower scene
Skip to 1:04 for the scene in the closet

The YouTube videos of 4PlayerPodcast playing through Fatal Frame games are truly something to behold. Just the way that guy screams when something jumps out at him gets me every time.
EDIT:
As for which is scarier, I'd go with Amnesia. Ghosts aren't that scary to me, especially ghosts in Japanese horror. None of that stuff has truly scared me, especially since you can actually fight them in Fatal Frame.

It's not the ghosts you fight in Fatal Frame that scare you, it's the ones that tell the story of what happened, or just appear then vanish. The ghosts are more frustrating than anything else.
Except for the crawling woman in Fatal Frame 3. She scared the shit out of me even though I KNEW going into that crawlspace was a bad idea.

Never played Fatal Frame, no guts to, just curious though, crawling woman like in Sadako in the Ring and the mother in Ju-On?
Just got this game last night... why have I never heard of it until yesterday??? :P
I must be blind or something.
This game is actually scary, it's incredible.
