How much does decent gaming PC's cost these days? It's really time to get something new, haven't been able to play anything that comes out for a couple of years.

I bought mine in the summer for about €900 (from Finland, so you'll probably get a similar rig for less). I later installed an aftermarket Noctua CPU cooler which cost about €50. This thing runs every game I have tried on maximum settings, so I'd guess I'll be fine for the time being.

But you also have the Euro? Electronics is about the only think that got cheaper after 2001 in Germany. I'm not even paying close to what I would have paid in Deutsche Marks for my computive goods. (Inflation, conversion, etc taken into account)

We do, but I was so young when the Euro came that I can't remember whether the price of anything went down. To my knowledge, almost everything became more expensive.

Don't waste your money buying stuff that you won't play. Take the year off from buying new games, and complete the games you have already bought. All well, you will have a lot less games in the backlog, and in the next sale during the following year, you will be able to buy the games that you wanted to buy during that previous year (and even cheaper!).
Which leads me to my own backlog... I think I am done with around 2/5 of the games I have. The only game I bought during this Steam sale is Medieval 2 Total War: Kingdoms, so that I would be able to complete Medieval 2 'properly'.
Currently slowly clearing out all Steamworks games I have, labeling them as 'finished' so that I won't take a look at them until I complete all games I have. Goal for the remaining time of 2011? To clear out 3/5 of the games I own.
I probably spend more on beer than video games.

Well, to cut a long story short, due to the Euro imports gotten a lot cheaper for most European countries. Most compuer stuff is imported into the EU, there it has gotten cheaper. And that the Euro has made things more expensive is, at least in Germany, mostly a myth. The problem is, our income hasn't risen as much as in the years before the Euro, therefore everything seems to be more expensive. Well, it doesn't really matter in the end, it just sucks.
