The Bazaar of Dreams

The last confrontation between the Blue Team and the Wanderers occurred in the Ringmaster's stadium, where the Blue Team eventually took the side of the Ringmaster and the Wanderers took the side of the King's Royal Guard.

The two parties fought each other to a virtual standstill. They have now pursued each other into the depths of the Ringmaster's stadium, and find themselves in a market most strange: the Bazaar of Dreams is a place where everything from skills and spells to riches - and even one's life - are exchanged.

By far the best real estate is in the center of the Bazaar (?) where magical imps drop coins for the ultimate slot machine: that which can give you everything you have ever wanted. But beware, coins are highly limited!

End a turn on one of these squares (?) for a 40% chance to catch a coin from the imps.

However, launch a magical or missile attack against an opponent in one of these squares (?) and there's a 10% chance they will be knocked back two spaces! Launch a melee attack against an opponent in one of these squares (?), and there's a 50% chance they will be knocked back two spaces!

The life exchange (+) trades your time for someone else's life: if you move into one of these squares, the opponent with the highest life total loses 1HP.

The skill vacuum (~) lets you rid an opponent of a hard earned skill or spell use. Move onto one of these squares, and an opponent of your choice loses 1 skill use or spell use of your choice.

If you step onto a shrine (X), you gain 4 HP.

End your turn in near the middle most square (!) and you have a 10% chance of catching a coin.

In total, there are seven coins to be distributed. Your team can win by getting the majority (4/7) of coins, or, by conventional means: having the last character standing. If you win by having the last character standing, then your team gains all the remaining coins.

Once the game ends, the winning team will be given an extra, 8th coin. Then, each team will be able to try their luck on the (rather unusual) slot machines. Details to follow.

This is probably going to be a nearly impossible one to draw up a strategy for, so good luck!

I'm in, but probably won't be able to actually play until this evening.
Bearing in mind your time zone, hopefully this won't be a major issue:}
Regarding our missing men, it would be nice to keep the team together, but whatever works....

Not at all. I don't anticipate starting today, probably in two or three days. Just wanted to get this up there for now.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. One of the things we can do though is to expand the rosters, so that players can rotate in when necessary. So, for example, you might have 5 or 6 members of the team and maybe 3 would be active at a time.

That would work, but you run the risk of an ever growing level split, with the less active players falling further behind.

Not necessarily - one of the things I've been considering is slowing level growth when you hit a certain point, say, level 5. We could make it so that 2 quests = 1 level. At level 10 it could be 3 quests = 1 level. That type of thing.

As long as the teams are balanced, like say, you each have 1 level 1 character, it shouldn't be much of a problem.... I don't think so at least.
I'm in. I think it would be best to either wait with Blue team vs Wanderers final confrontation and get another game in meanwhile or get another player for each of the teams.
I don't like the idea of losing HP each turn, I know it's supposed to make the game more dynamic and prevent stalling but this way it could mean that the team with better potions or potion creating abilities will win. Besides that, we still have to collect the coins so we might get some fight anyway.

Why do you think I avoided using my potion last game?
;-}
I'm in for this round.

Yeah, actually, I meant to change that last night. As I playtested it, it's actually now possible to defeat all enemies in less than 10 moves. Plus, with the rules of this particular round, there shouldn't be any stalemates.

So, I'm going to go ahead with the idea of adding a level 1 character to each side, unless anyone objects. I will give them a full potion of restoration (restores HP to original levels) so that they can still make a big difference.

Is this alright by everyone?

I edited the rules so that you don't lose 1HP per turn, and you in fact gain 4HP by moving onto a shrine.

To make something totally clear: each square only provides something when you move ONTO it. If you camp there, it doesn't do anything for you.

The only ones that are different are the coin squares, where you get a chance at a coin for each turn you spend there. So you WILL want to camp there.

Would they be able to give the potion to another teammate? (The lvl one players)

No, it would be restricted for their own personal use in order to avoid that. Maybe it might just heal 10 pts if used by another character. But definitely not their whole life.
Two lvl 3 and one lvl 1 per team is a nice idea. Would you give us some time before starting to have the option to buy something from the shop, using the remaining cash?

Yes, absolutely.
I'm in and am fine with the level 1 players filling the roster.
I'll miss Exile and dr. zli but stuff happens.

Ok, cool.

I have 1 new level 1 player signed up and just need 1 more.

Would any team like to volunteer to accept the first new player, a Mage?
