Soyeong: Deism is a subset of theism. So you're saying a lack of belief in god or gods isn't good enough for atheism any more?
pimpmonkey2382: No I'm saying what you just posted is obviously BS, or if I want to be a conspiracy theorist. I'd says religious nutcases pretending to be atheist. I as an atheist wouldn't bother with a "church" or spend that much time thinking about it. And no deism isn't a subset of theism because they DON'T believe any sort of man made religion it is it's own thought process.
Deists believe that a creator god exists, but that he retreated after creating and has no further interaction with the created universe or the beings within. It's true that they reject revelation and religions, but they nonetheless believe in the existence of a god, which qualifies them as a theist. It is rather amusing watching you squirm though.
Elmofongo: Is it true the founding fathers of the USA were Deist? Did they proclaim themselves as such? I heard that Thomas Jefferson went as far as introducing an altered view of Jesus where it teaches the moral teachings of Jesus, but eliminated all the divine and supernatural things surrounding him.
A number of them were.
