DrYaboll: You're right, however, that it cant be treated as the absolute truth, after all the big bang theory is nothing but...a theory. It cant really be verified directly, same as a lot of other stuff.
Their arguments however are definitely more compelling than what the theists state, and discarding it doesnt make sense, unless, of course, you're a scientist yourself and you have a better theory.
Soyeong: A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on knowledge that has been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation. So to say that something is nothing but a theory to to misunderstand what a scientific theory is. It's like saying gravity is nothing but a theory. Their arguments however are definitely more compelling than what the theists state, and discarding it doesnt make sense, unless, of course, you're a scientist yourself and you have a better theory.
The big bang is a theistic theory because the big bang requires something that caused it.
Also, there are loads of scientific theories. Time travel, multiverse, what is beyond the observable universe.......really, loads of it.
FAButzke is actually right in that aspect, and it was my fault that I ommited some of the things he said.
If you dont agree with me, make a wikipedia trip and try to judge for yourself.
They have theories for everything, even if there is no way to actually check if it's true.
Also, I am not really sure what point are you trying to make here.
Basicly, it is vital to have some dosage of sceptisism, and dont take everything for granted. But really, one bigger wikipedia trip, and you start to wonder "where the hell are they taking these ideas from?".
Sure its interesting, sure a lot of it makes perfect sense to me, but you cant believe blindly. Some of the stuff looks like wild guesses (please, dont torment me by taking wild guess literally, heh).
Lets be honest, a lot of the science is about making a guess (history and archeology included). Sciencists are not superhumans, nor gods. In many cases it works like this: we have evidence A, B and C. We analize it. We compare it to other stuff. We fill in the blanks.
The end result is, that it cant be deemed as absolute truth.
Just take a look at the course of scientific theories, and how many times after X years passed, another generation of scientists took a lot at it, and said "well, this is bs - here's how it is for real".

No he is not right, because he claims that atheists blindly believe those scientists, he says they are our priests and science is the religion. FAButzke is actually right in that aspect, and it was my fault that I ommited some of the things he said.
Exactly what I tried to explain to him, science is as much about disproving stuff as it is about finding new hypothesissies (sorry don;t know the plural).

No. Basically, an idea of god requires intent - that something sentient wanted to create the universe. I don't belive that to be the case. I don't believe the opposite to be the case either - I have no information to form opinion one way or the other, so I don't.

Well, whether thats true or not, depends on whom he's looking at - there definitely are some people who take everything some scientist says for granted, which carries some similarity to religion. Personally, I wouldnt say that science is my religion, more like that it is my substitute of religion (it makes a difference).
As in, I dont refer to the concept of god and religious beliefs to explain stuff for me, prioritizing rationale, thus science, over them.

I certainly don't agree with everything my religious leaders say, and there are many who want to be questioned and encourage discussion. That's not to say there aren't Christians who aren't dogmatic, but we certainly aren't all like that. Personally, I wouldnt say that science is my religion, more like that it is my substitute of religion (it makes a difference).
There are groups of atheists who meet together every week on Sunday morning. “We get called the ‘atheist church,’ but we are really all the best bits of church but with no religion,” he said, darting his lanky form up and down the aisle, arms flapping like some excitable exotic bird. “Our vision is to help people live the best life possible.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/29/sunday-assembly-atheist-church_n_4339870.html
While science is not technically a religion, there are quite a number of similarities between the devotion to science and the devotion to God, especially when new atheists get dogmatic about it being a lack of belief or about their being no evidence for religion.

No. I said if you aren't a theist, you're perhaps a DEIST if especially if you waste your time going through church mumbo jumbo.
