Chris argues that Planescape Torment is the best game on GOG. Chris is an evil racist. Therefore, Chris is wrong. Ad hominem fallacy.
"Make love not war." -- A false dichotomy.

Barack Obama:
"It comes down to this: We have to prioritize. Both parties agree that we need to reduce the deficit by the same amount -- by $4 trillion. So what choices are we going to make to reach that goal? Either we ask the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share in taxes, or we’re going to have to ask seniors to pay more for Medicare. We can’t afford to do both.

Either we gut education and medical research, or we’ve got to reform the tax code so that the most profitable corporations have to give up tax loopholes that other companies don’t get. We can’t afford to do both."

DaCostaBR: No True Scotsman:

Person 1: Games are things where you win or lose.
Person 2: But you don't win games like Sim City or Animal Crossing, and others like Braid or Gone Home you can win but you don't lose.
Person 1: Well, real games are things where you win or lose.
Appeal to Authority:

Something is a game if it is marketed as such ;)

Ha! Perhaps.

But from my experience the "is it a game or not?" debate is only brought up when someone wants to exclude something, because people don't really know the exact definition of what games are, they just know what they don't want it to be.
Not in because I.... hated the Wing Commander series, but +1 for you.

The electronic entertainment industry labels virtually all its products as games or gaming accessories. When you think about it, this is bound to be inaccurate. Then again, we've really lost sense of what "game" actually used to mean.

It's worthwhile musing a bit on the subject...

I think it runs the risk of making gaming as a whole smaller, thus poorer for it. So I prefer not make the distinction if I can avoid it.

In, +1, and thank you.

The problem is not that we have lost sense of what "game" used to mean, but that there has never been any agreement upon what "game" really is...
Bandwagon fallacy:
The general rule is that conduct or beliefs spread among people, as fads and trends clearly do, with "the probability of any individual adopting it increasing with the proportion who have already done so". As more people come to believe in something, others also "hop on the bandwagon" regardless of the underlying evidence.

This is why for example many voters go out and vote the most popular parties, because if it's good for others, it must be good for them too.
Thanks Dzsono! Good thing this was bumped or I'd have missed it. Definitely in.

An example of a false dilemma: "You're either with us, or against us."

Vic Toews Canadian Public Safety Minister said on February 13, 2012: ".. either stand with us or with the child pornographers" in response to questions from Quebec MP Francis Scarpaleggia (Lac-Saint-Louis) regarding extensive Privacy Commission concerns about 'warrant-less access' to all Canadian Internet and Cell phone accounts under the proposed legislation contained in bill C-30 "Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act" introduced the following day (February 14, 2012) in the House of Commons of Canada.
