The convenience of not needing another console and buying used games is worth the limited selection of the PSN. :P I've looked through the store myself, so I know what I'm getting myself into.

And I heard positive things about the 3DS version of Sonic Generations. If you've played the console version, then the 3DS version is a nice compliment to it. I really enjoyed the PC version, and would like the 3DS (which has completely different levels) to compliment it. But yeah, the 40 dollar price tag is intimidating, so hopefully it will go down in price by the time I get the 3DS.

If it is a bad ribbon cable, the new screen comes attached with one, the main problem would be desoldering AND resoldering the speakers (not an issue if you mainly use headphones) but that is still doable.

In any case, that is what I would do, haha.

Yeah, I have no idea how to do that soldering stuff. x_x Otherwise I'd be able to fix my DS, replace my old Pokemon game's batteries, and so much other stuff.

I like my 3DS so far which I got in early December. I had a lot of fun with Super Mario 3D Land and Dead or Alive: Dimensions. I was a bit let down with Mario Kart 7 as I hoped for more but it was still very good. I also have Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked and Ocarina of Time 3D (decided to get since I never played Master Quest so decided the price isn't too bad) which will keep me busy until Resident Evil: Revelations comes out in February and that isn't counting the stack of regular DS games I need to play(Dragon Quest IV,V, VI, IX, 999, Ghost Trick). So yeah i don't think it will be gathering dust anytime soon so I'm pretty happy with it.

I will get the Vita as well but probably do the same and wait until the end of the year to get one so it has a good 10 months to build up a decent sized library.

Yeah, I wanted to surprise people. :P Both systems are great, and I love both Nintendo's and Sony's exclusives.

I'm not so sure about the Vita, but then it's not out here yet (I think). I love my 3DS though and it plays DS games well enough that I've basically retired my lite for everything but homebrew.

Can't you buy a DS Lite for like 40 bucks now?

70 dollars for a refurbished one at Gamestop, which is a really good deal. Or you can risk buying a used one off amazon or eBay for a little cheaper. But DS Lites are fragile enough, so I don't think I would try buying a used one. >_<

Hmm, for some reason I thought that they'd dropped massively in price since the 3DS dropped to its new price point. Man, they want 140 for DS Lites now, that price is actually higher than it used to be! And the DSi XL is 170, how the hell do they justify that with the 3DS out? Wonder if they jacked the prices back up because people weren't buying the 3DS and they figure of the price is the same they can increase the install base...

Yeah, forget it, if you need a new one and don't mind the DRM and shitty battery life you might as well get the 3DS and turn of the 3D.

Every DS after the DS Lite included extra hardware level DRM to keep you from doing what you wanted with your hardware (and supposedly prevent you from playing pirated and backed up games, don't think that last one worked out so well though).

Aah. I can tolerate that kind of DRM on a handheld.

I've never had a hacked DS, but I love playing my old PS1 games on my hacked PSPs. Yes, I have 2 of them. I bought one on ebay, and the other was given to me later by a cousin who said "If you can fix it it's yours." The only thing that was wrong was the metal tray preventing it from reading games properly. Easy fix. I should probably try to sell one of them...

Not sure about the DRM, but the 3DS does have regional lockouts. Never had that problem with the DS Lite =/.
