LynetteC: And seeing as this thread is about the current sale, allow me to actually post something on topic! From the home page:

FLASH DEALS:great new offers every 40 minutes

Isn't this false advertising? None of the Flash deals have been new for at least 48 hours now, possibly longer.
The definition of NEW comes up as:

1. Not existing before; made, introduced, or discovered recently or now for the first time.
2. Already existing but seen, experienced, or acquired recently or now for the first time.

The first definition would mean they should all be new, but the second definition would allow them a get out clause. As they could say that some people would be seeing these games on sale for the first time, which to them, would be a new game. I'm sure there are other definitions that could also be used to protect them as well.

CarrionCrow: Akira. Ghost in the Shell, both film-based and the series. Trigun. Samurai Champloo. Black Lagoon. Cowboy Bebop. Paranoia Agent. Perfect Blue.
There's plenty of anime garbage. Boatloads and boatloads of it. But what I just listed are anime that range from good to fantastic.
avatar
j0ekerr: All of those are flawed.

Akira and GitS (film versions) suffer from "too deep for you" syndrome which can be reduced to... "we (the writers) have no idea what we're talking about so let's fill this up with techno-babble and vague philosphical remarks to make it look highly intellectual" also known as the "Evangelion method"

Paranoia Agent and Perfect Blue suffer from 'let's ape Philip K. Dick at his own game'. Exceedingly convoluted plots are not necessarily good.

Samurai Champloo suffered from, 'Yeah well, I'm gonna go build my own meiji restoration Japan, with blackjack and hookers and 19th century samurai rappers'. And from that point on, I couldn't get on it.

Cowboy Bebop I haven't seen yet. Only ever saw one episode on TV, I had a great nap.

Black Lagoon is another I haven't seen, but I hear it suffers from gun porn.

Trigun might be the most salvageable of them all, but again I haven't seen it. So I can't criticize it either.

The point is... the old adage "all software sucks", can be extended with a corollary of "all anime sucks". There is no fighting that.

Also proof of Japanese insanity, this was the most viewed anime of its season.
Most of everything sucks. That's a fact.
Of all the ones mentioned, I'd recommend Black Lagoon the most. Even moreso than Cowboy Bebop. Not sure about gun porn, but it's definitely highly violent at times.
Enjoyed the arc with the assassin maid. good times. felt like a spinoff. disapointed was not so.

CarrionCrow: I try to not be judgmental about things, but I'm going to be judgmental now - if your idea of romance is a high school that's only for pigeons?

You are fucked in the head. Utterly. That is a question you will always have the answer to.
Wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, ask yourself, "Am I fucked in the head today?" and if you have so much as a single transitory thought regarding romance and godsdamned pigeons? You are TOTALLY fucked in the head.

What a piece of shit. It's so bad I'm honestly a bit surprised that GOG has it at all. Kinda kicks their maintained boutique idea in the balls, that's for sure.

IT MAKES FAHRENHEIT LOOK AMAZING BY COMPARISON.
Do you know how absolutely WRONG the last sentence is? David Cage is to video games what a blind proctologist with hook hands is to proper colon care. AND IT'S STILL MILES BETTER. Fahrenheit has a scene in which you have a (I kid you not) quicktime zombie sex scene! AND IT'S STILL BETTER.
Whoa calm down.

All of what you said is true, and yet at the same time it is not.

Yes the game is bad, it's horrible, it's beyond bad, but it's supposed to be that bad, on purpose.

The game was supposed to be a parody of all the ridiculous tropes found in dating sim games, with the twist of everybody being a bird.

Some people found it hilarious, while to others it felt worse than the twist at a Shyamalan movie.

Also, like any jokes that overstay their welcome. They just kept beating the horse even when it was a bloody pulpy mess on the ground, by making it a full length otome game. Bit by bit, the sarcasm disappears and it starts to take itself too seriously. So your enjoyment of the game will be directly proportional to the amount of ironic masochism you can withstand.

hummer010: That's two somewhat compelling bundles today. I like Deadelic Adventures, and I like dungeon crawlers. The tough part is owning games elsewhere. For Deadelic, I already own Journey of a Roach from Groupees, and for the dungeon crawlers, I already own Legend of Grimrock from Humble, and Wazardy 6&7 on steam.

What to do, what to do.....

CarrionCrow: When you have a moment, feel free to check your PM's. I can attempt to resolve part of the problem, at least.
This really did help solve my dilemma. This, combined with the fact the Memoria is on my wishlist, which, because of Secret Santa, means the Deadalic Bundle is off limits for me! I picked up the rest of the Dungeon Crawlers.

I own, and have played a bunch of Grimrock, so I'll have to give that one away at some point. Once support converts my order to a gift. Idiot that I am, I forgot to check the gift box.

You just pulled a me. I can boil all that down to two words, and I'm usually the one who gets super in-depth with paragraph after paragraph.
Two words - It's shit. =)
Whoever decided to do another sale so quickly is a doofus. Bad pacing, more of the same deals and just way too soon. I'd say there is a thing like sale-exhaustion and we've reached that state. :P

All of the non-weekend GOG sales I've been involved with, that's from Insomnia #1 until now, have had an element of boredom/annoyance/disappointment about them. Overlong, repetitive, stale. I had an epiphany during the Fall sale which has been confirmed with this one: GOG don't know how to run a sale. Pants notification time, little or no info during a sale, endless damn repeats of the same stuff until my head throbs. I know I don't have to watch their evil timer, but when they promise new titles you sort of expect them to appear. I like a good deal. I like PC games. But I like the forum more. Thank Odin there are people here who are intelligent, funny, encouraging, upbeat and who are prepared to pass the time by making the most of it instead of disappearing down the sink-hole that every GOG sale rapidly (and sadly) becomes.
I enjoyed david cage's tech demo movies. The one with the android girl was particularly good. I also did not hate Beyond Two Souls. Those other two games? not so much.

CarrionCrow: No. Just did something even better.

I deleted the piece of shit.
avatar
LynetteC: And this should be your review on the game page. :-)
I typed one out, hit submit, but it's not on the game page. Do reviews get inspected by GOG staff before being posted publicly now?

No idea as I've never submitted one. Anyone else know?

Not as far as I know. They just take a while to appear. They can be deleted afterwards, though, if they are reported as spam.

Ah, okay. Thank you. =) If it gets reported as spam, it'll be remarkably well written spam. Usually spam doesn't come in coherent paragraphs. -laughs-

Sorry, I thought you might know, so I sent the reply your way. Thank you, though. =)

Sounds like the Keane jokes during an Insomnia sale! lol

I'm glad I was able to help with your problem. =) And, just as a bonus, two less games running on competition gear. Always a good thing.
