madth3: What rules?

They said there would be 700 games discounted 50% and they are there. They said two daily bundles and so far we have had them. They said there would be 200 games on flash sales and they have been there. GOG has never said what structure the flash sales would follow.

You mean other kinds of sales? GOG special sales have never played by the rules at least since the Insomnia sales, I think.
Exactly, what rules? Are there any universally applied rules? GOG makes its own rules and that's what makes their sales fun.

And if you don't like the way the sale's going, you can always hang out in the tracker thread with the cool kids. :-D

Wait, this thread is for cool kids?
I might be out of place, then :D

That's rule #1, actually. ;-)
I like sales of any kind, but I'm thinking this sale isn't nearly as much fun as an Insomnia sale. There's something about watching the counter go down, not knowing what game will come up next, that makes it fun. This kind of sale is nice, because you can pick up a few (*ahem* or ten) games you've been meaning to buy, but it's not really worth staying up late for or anything, since there's so much repetition of the same games.

To be honest, the first thing I did when I got home from work last night was look for the sale tracker thread rather than the official one. Much more fun to be had here. :-)
Any thoughts on The Raven - Legacy Of A Master Thief? I'm a sucker for detective stories, but the reviews here on GOG are making me a little gun-shy...

There was a lot more post in the tracker than the official during insomnia, this time we are barely keeping up.

Me, too! As soon as I saw the Summer Sale had begun, I jumped over to the forums to see if there was a tracker thread. Low and behold, IAmSinistar did not disappoint. I love this community! ^_^

LynetteC: You're very lucky then. This sale started at 2pm BST on15 June and I received the email notification at 1.46am on 16 June - just short of 12 HOURS after it started. Fortunately, as I have my tablet on my desk at work and I check the website regularly, I had a suspicion the sale was going to start when no weekend promo had appeared by lunchtime. :-)

IAmSinistar: Likewise, I usually get the email long after I've already discovered the sale on my own. Not too bad on regular sales, but on these timed events it's gotta sting for folks who aren't as fanatical about following the site.
I always get the emails way late as well. But I am also subscribed to the GOG RSS Feed and it updates every time something is added to the news so I get it almost as soon as it comes out. Since I did not open Outlook until almost 9 it shows that I received the news update at 8:57 AM EST. If, for instance, I had opened it up earlier, then it would have checked the RSS feed and downloaded it sooner than that. I believe that it checks every 30 minutes to see if there are new posts to be read.

Checking to previous day, whcih is when they announced the release of Seven Cities of Gold (Thanks Sinister, enjoy this game!) I got it at 6 AM EST, which is when I opened my email up for the day.

That's actually GOG's fault for making this sale way too comfortable over the weekend, thus people enjoy their weekend more outside of GOG than in here. ;-P

And by doing so you honoured your well deserved place in this community. :-)

justanoldgamer: I own everything on the current flash sale except Farcry which I own on CD and did not like. Should I give it another try?
What did you not like about it? I'm not a huge FPS fan but I loved it, and am currently waiting/hoping for Far Cry 2 to be on sale (I went to bed just before it came up last night, dang) as one of the few I'm looking to pick up. I know it's not the most loved game and I've read the criticisms but at a sale price I want to give it a go.

I enjoyed Far Cry as a stealth game, trying to stay as far from the center of the action as possible, and trying to get the enemies to kill each other too. The times you are forced into close combat I found harder (but then again I suck at that) but not too hard. The last few levels do get tough, but using the console save command helped there.

But if you already tried it and didn't like it maybe not!

Guys, i need your gog prediction powers, do you think that there will be new games on flash sales or is it only repeats from now on? I want to buy Mob Rule and Gangsters Organized Crime (and yes, i know they're already cheap but hey, im a cheap bastard, what can i do?) so i'm not sure if i should wait or buy it now.

Kind of waiting to hear what is said on that myself for the same reason; so far as it is looking like I am going to pass it for the time being despite the nice discount.

Long story, but no, we don't think those games will for a flash sale this time.
