BlackThorny: ...
I always wanted to buy games on GOG in order to support those guys and the promos were indeed great, but what drove me to it was actually the community - when I buy a game on Gog I not only fund a gamer (as I feel like buying from steam serves the same purpose [not including titles with horrendous drm I don't want to support either way) I also get a spot in the company of fellow gamers in a vivid and heartwarming, like I never felt before when I bought anywhere else.
This is why I look forward so much for Galaxy, being able to share my experience with this wonderful community - in ways only steam could offer before (but the community comparison of Steam vs Gog is like comparing talk backs on a main street media newspaper article about an upcoming game VS a dedicated forum in a fan site).
Yeah, when I buy games here I always get at least a slight bit of a feeling of excitement for some reason that I *NEVER* get when I buy a game somewhere else. I never really thought about that before. When I buy a game here I either consciously or even subconsciously feel like I'm a being a part of something bigger, while when I buy from Steam, Greenman, Gamersgate, or any of the bundle sites or elsewhere, I feel like I'm buying a bag full of socks or underwear at Walmart or something - no emotive experience at all. I just never thought about that until now.
The GOG forums are also the first web forums not just for gaming, but for anything at all in which I have bothered to sign up for a login to post in, and actually have ended up using it with any regularity. I generally dislike web forums completely and prefer mailing lists, IRC and other more oldschool communication methods, but the GOG forums are just so good it's hard to avoid them. :) I hope the forums or some other new mechanism is present within Galaxy and integrated into the Galaxy client too. Oddly, I largely ignore forums/community of any other gaming distributors/sites out there. I rarely ever post or read Steam forums/groups and they seem to have very very low levels of communication happening, like people only bother to post there when they have game problems or something - no real "community" feel.
BlackThorny: * Another point were I wish I was in your shoes as I would love not missing on Free Tex, hoping to get the bundle in this sale then all is good :)
The other two games I really wish to get are Tales of the Monkey Island and the Penumbra I seem to keep missing all the time.
The Tex Murphy collection
might show up again on the 29th if they do go ahead and do an encore sale as many of us predict might happen from past history.
Penumbra collection is
ON FLASH SALE RIGHT NOW, don't miss it! :)
