CelestialBunny: It seems XIII used to be on GOG but was removed early 2013 (before I joined in the summer)

Means I have no way of getting that online, will look around but not hopeful of finding it
If you find anyone who has an extra copy send them my way, have a trade post set up in the new general trading forum for that and some other games removed before I could get them too, and so far no takers for the any game on gog currently or multiples for swap. Have to have something to look forward to getting and playing as once June 29 hits my backlog should be down to five or ten max(mainly ones I just am not quite interested in enough to pay the full price and waiting on a sale) and other than any that slipped through the cracks I should have most of GOG's catalog finally. Almost looking forward to sales end for new games to start showing up again.

Windows 8, even with the start menu back is just not something I would want to deal with. The first windows OS to inspire such hate in me (other windows releases have irritated me or made me a little upset with what they were doing) that I am testing out linux distros to see what I will go to after windows 7 is no longer supported. I just don't want a tablet os on my desktop.

justanoldgamer: Another great puzzle game to while away the time but turn based is Drod. The mechanic is completely different but it somehow reminds me of the classic Sokoban.
I'm glad you mentioned Drod, I got it here in the sale and I'm really looking forward to it ;-)
Interesting, though slightly annoying to see the site refer to itself in the third person like that. ;)

I must commend you, Pidgeot, HypersomniacLive, and Tooms for still following......this sale. :D

foxworks: I thoroughly enjoyed the Wing Commander series. However, never did play the Academy and Armada titles. If you're into a dog fighting combat, but in space, then Wing Commander is for you. If you're into space travel, bartering commodities, etc, then Privateer offers that. At 80% off it's a fantastic deal.

Neverfree: Thank you mr. Cheese Biscuit sir! :) I may just wait until the final day of the sale to see what gog throws us, closer to my payday anyways :P another GoGer mentioned a joystick making it far for enjoyable, may have to look into getting one :)
for the wing commander games, a joystiq would help /a ton./

i nearly finished privateer and it was mostly thanks to a trusty joystiq that i managed that particular feat back when these games were new.

Neverfree: Since the other summer thread is lame and this appears to be where all the cool kids hang, I shall ask here as well!
Never had a chance to play any of the wing commander series and I'm a little hesitant to purchase them. Are they newcomer friendly/enjoyable or more so for veterans that have previously played before, for a trip down nostalgia road?
avatar
real.geizterfahr: Wing Commander 3, 4 and 5 are very newcomer friendly. 1, 2, Academy and Armada are newcomer friendly as well, but... they haven't aged very well :/ Nostalgia only. Privateer isn't exactly newcomer friendly. You buy a better ship? Enemies get stronger. You buy a better weapon? Enemies get stronger. You buy better armor for your ship? Enemies get stronger. That's Privateer...

Privateer 2? Not Wing Commander (it's Privateer 2, not Wing Commander Privateer 2), but a very good game as well. Feels a bit like Fear 'n Loathing in Las Vegas though... Cutscenes are very trippy. But the flying is very good and should be manageable for newcomers.
i totally want to chime in here.

privateer 2's cutscenes are...very weird, indeed.

privateer one's story all hangs together quite nicely and is told pretty well throughout the game.

privateer 2? it just goes off the deep end being completely weird. and it doesn't even take very long for this to happen, either. so, either you'll be fascinated by how totally bizarre everything is, or you'll be horrified and skip the cinematics to get to the gameplay :P

I swear GOG must have some kind of subliminal messages that makes me get my card out of my wallet and start buying games I had no intention of buying. Argghh. I just bought Don't Starve. Darnit! lol. Now I am going to download it and probably spend the next few hours with blurry eyes. It looks like it'll be fun and frustrating.

That's actually a very good choice. It's addictive as heck, and has that "play through until you die and try to do better next time" dynamic that keeps you coming back. It shares that with FTL.

Even more impressive, this sale seems to be the counter agent to the Insomnia sale and yet you Insomniacs are still at it. I'd shake every one of your hands, if I didn't just finish cleaning the chimp's cage ;-)

EDIT: Oh, thanks for that link. Now I'll have to watch Hot Fuzz again when I get home :D

Yep, that's the feature that made me want it. You should have seen me. Trying to resist the impulse. Telling myself I already had too many games. Got up and drank two glasses of water, walked around the house (outside and inside). I was like an alcoholic trying not to give in to the bottle of Jack on the counter.

Came back to the computer sure that the sale on that game would be over so I could tell myself it was too expensive (relatively) for an impulse buy. But noooo, there it was, still on sale, calling my name. GOG needs to bottle their subliminal messages or something. lol

Hello, My name is Madeaj and I am a gameholic.
I have a question, has Commandos 2+3 been in sale? Beside the bundle pack I mean.

I must have watched Hot Fuzz over two dozen times, and though I know almost every single line by now, it never gets old. :-)

bernstein82: It seems you sir do not know the concept of windows. Wait for it... Be amazed... there is no need for a such a plugin, windows natively comes with windows ;)
Hahaha, yes... there is always the option of having two windows side by side, but that duplicates all of your bookmarks toolbar and other UI elements and wastes space, plus all of the web pages in either browser are then half-screen. :) There are plugins to allow splitting of a single tab into two panes side by side though and that is useful for some things, allowing the browser to remain maximized (my personal preference). :) I'm somewhat of a power user mind you ... to give you an idea of what I mean by that, I have the entire Bookmark Toolbar filled on a 30" monitor, over 700 web pages open in tabs at the moment, tab groups, about 45 active browser extensions and much more... I'm that "corner case" user that is every website owner's nightmare. :)

bernstein82: Don't know about the price but you might just want to wait for the consumer version of the Oculus... :)
Yep, I'm keeping an eye on the Rift and definitely will buy one. They've previously suggested that the target retail price of the consumer edition is $275 if I recall correctly although I don't have a reference to cite for that. Mind you the TrackIR works only with certain games to do head tracking and body tracking, and the Rift can do similar but requires games that are enhanced to support the Rift (or externally enhanced with special software IIRC). One problem with the Rift is that you wont be able to see your hands or what they are doing and if that is important to see the keyboard or flip a switch or something it might be tricky in some games. Personally I'm looking forward to utilizing both pieces of hardware though and using the best one for the individual title. The Rift is going to soooo rock. :)

The List™ is the best place to find out, it isn't on there as far as I can see. You might try posting a request in the classifieds thread to see if someone can help you out
Anyone know what time on the 30th this sale ends? Apparently I have to wait until Monday to receive my check instead of Friday, with Monday being the last day and all -.- Any idea?
