Stilton: What have you folk picked up that you might have passed over before?

IAmSinistar: Excellent post. For me, the ones I grabbed that I have glossed over before include IL-2 Sturmovik, Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe, Subwar 2050, and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Some of these I got this time thanks to doing as you did and investigating them further (plus some great feedback from other users), whereas some are of the "splurge on it because at this price it's worth the gamble" category. These sales are very good for expanding one's gaming horizons.
Lets see: Anomaly, Aquanox, Capitalism 1&2, Desperados1&2, Disciples 1&2, Eador Genesis, King of Dragon Pass, Master of Magic, Overlord, Spellforce 1&2, Tropico 3, Reus, Stronghold Crusader, Trine 2, Wargame, Witcher 2

Lots of games i never knew existed... especially Overlord... should keep me busy for a while... :-)
btw: i think especially old, unpopular & indie titles benefit the most from such sales...
OK, we have Luftrausers closing in at a steady pace once more (2 hours and counting...)

Its a title I have until now decided against, but I'd like to hear from anyone out there who has played it and has an opinion as to how good/bad it is, its merits and shortcomings etc. Thank you ;-)

IAmSinistar: I have a modest shelf on there, all DRM-free titles. There are a number which I bought there that finally came to GOG. There are also some ones on there that really should be on GOG (besides X-COM) - Gunlok, Harbinger, Perimeter 2, Titan Quest, and the A.I.M. series among them.
Yeah, I was just looking at the A.I.M. series. I've never played them but do remember hearing good things about them. Either that or my brain is just in meltdown mode! lol I think it's time to go back to bed! I am still exhausted. Used to be able to do the 24+ hours on the road/home/party whatever. Guess this is one of those "You're getting old Steve!" ;-)

Edit: Just looked at the homepage. I own everyone of them but 3. Sorry Stiltin, Luftrausers is one of the ones I do not own. Is this how it is for you IAmSinistar?

That's a good selection - I have some of those myself. Overlord 1&2 I have on disc from way back and they make me smile ;-)

And you're right, the less seen stuff needs to be in sales like this.

I had a bootleg of Subwar 2050 a long long long long time ago. I think it was 1995 or so perhaps but my computer was wayyyy too slow so I never ever did get to see the game. :) I should buy it from GOG some day to check it out perhaps on one of those "whims" although I think I filled my whim plate this time around hehe. I do really like the Riddick games although the slight visual distortion throws me off for a few minutes when I play them. Probably just need to google for how to tweak that though or check the GOG forums perhaps, not a huge issue though the game is pretty nice looking and I found it fun. Sturmovik is a top shelf for the genre and timeframe and can be pretty deep due to the level of sim, but that's cool for any true sim enthusiast.

I got quite a few whimsical splurges this time around including the Age of Wonders bundle, Spellforce bundle, Settlers bundle, Broken Sword bundle, Theme Park (completing the Bullfrog bundle), Guild bundle, Runaway bundle, Race Driver: GRID, Driver Parallel Lines, Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy), Scratches, Montague's Mount, Eador: Genesis, Sherlock Holmes: Secret of Silver Potatosack or whatever it's called,. It looks like I bought more games and bundles on whims (some from my "hrm maybe check these out some time" list, others from total random whim - than I bought games I really really wanted or had notable interest in. Hehehe.

What? A game you don't own or haven't played! Surely not... ;-)

Judas sold me on it, though I haven't played it yet. Seems the strong point is in all the wild plane combinations you can unlock. It reminds me of Time Pilot, and if it plays as good then it will have been a worthwhile buy.

I've enjoyed the first one, will get into the second eventually. It's neat playing an exploration RPG where all the beings (including yourself) are machines.

Yes i like to keep things tidy as well so it's either gog or steam. or rather: gog-/steam-*key*...
bought a few humblebundles cause often you get steam keys & a drm free copy!

really like that they've begun to offer gog-keys... (currently eador: masters of the broken world for $6)

txnca: I've never used them before. I have checked them out a few times, but like Humble Bundle, I have never bought anything from them, only here and Steam, that is until today. I like the DRM Free! That is why I buy most of my stuff here. The ones I have on Steam are ones I can't buy anywhere else online for download which is what I prefer. Saves me space which is in top demand in my comp room! ;-)

Edit: Wow, they have 89 pages of DRM free games for Windows.
Just a heads up - their DRM-free is not the same as on GOG and you have to do a workaround their online download-install wrapper to get a backup-able installer. If you're interested in details you can read this thread, particularly post #4.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that when I am awake!

They also lag far behind in patching their titles and keeping them up to date. I originally had Paper Sorcerer from them and it had a nasty quest bug in it. Then the title arrives on GOG and it's all patched and beautiful. I don't need to tell you which copy I kept. :)
OK, that’s me done for this sale. I can’t compulsively check the site every hour anymore. I have no idea how I’ll fill that hole…probably just scroll up and down my massive wall of games in admiration until the weekend when I actually have time to play something (and wind up playing Dark Souls II, but no matter).

The haul:

Blitzkreig Anthology
Total impulse buy. I will never play this game. I feel compelled to get 2 just to be a completionist. I’ve only played through 2/3 of Startcraft II Wings of Liberty. Why would I start another RTS from 9 years ago?

Bloodrayne 1 & 2
Why? Bah, they were less than 2 bucks each. Even if I play each for an hour and they completely suck, it’s still worth it. Right?

Might & Magic 7, 8, 9 + Crusaders of M&M
Needed 7 & 8. Cheaper to finish buying bundle than buy them separately.

Ishar compilation
Mmmm, another dungeon crawler.

Summoner
I’m a sucker for any isometric Diablo-like. I will probably only play a couple of hours.

King of Dragon Pass
Impulse buy forced upon me by the good word of the GOG community.

Drod
Bought this on the good word for it on NeoGAF. Played an hour of it already and really enjoyed it, despite the simple graphics. I’ll give it more time…some day…

Disciples II Gold
I need another fantasy strat like I need a hole in my head. I haven’t even played HOMM3 yet!

Sin Gold
Always wanted this when it came out, never had the rig to run it. Loaded it up to see what the fuss was about. Man, have the graphics aged. Looks like DOOM to me. Will give it a little more time just for giggle…one day…

Clive Barker’s Undying
Impulse buy. GOG made me do it.

Master of Magic
Total Biscuit made me do it. I’ll give it a go, it’s supposed to be a classic.

Rune Classic
I actually loaded this one up and gave it about a half hour. Really loved it, can’t wait to set up a game pad with it and dig in…some day…

Why doesn’t the Gothic bundle include 1? Would have been an insta-buy.
So, up to 92 games now. I still might spring for the rest of the D&D collection…

What did you get? What will you play first? What are you playing now?

EDIT: I did it, I sprang for the D&D collection. Funny, for the first time ever I’ve spent more on the GOG sale than Steam, and don’t see me spending more on Steam thus far…

Niggles: Anyone kinda bored of the rotation already?. they really need to throw some curveballs during sales (never happens on GOG) to keep things fresh.... 14 more days is a long time for the same games to keep coming up....
Yes. Once I saw games repeated, I lost the sense of urgency.
