IAmSinistar: EDIT: Hmm, Master of Orion 3 again. Tempting to finish the set, but it has such terrible reviews. Even the alien on the game's page looks unhappy to be there.

HypersomniacLive: Oh, look! It's calling you... again! Maybe if you caved and got it, it would stop coming up this often? ;-P
You're probably right. :)

IAmSinistar: My preference would be for X-COM: Terror From The Deep. But I'd also like (more tangentially) Prisoner Of Ice.

skeletonbow: I played that one briefly when it came out but hadn't finished the first one yet so I never had a chance to dig into it. Got it installed ATM too though and soon as I finally defeat UFO Defense I'm digging into Terror From the Deep right away too. :) I played the 3rd game (Apocalypse?) just briefly too but it was a loaner I had to give back. Don't remember much about it other than that I think it was higher resolution and a different game mechanic.
I've got all the X-COMs on CD still, plus the whole DRM-free lot from GG. But I'd really much rather have them here. The first two games are very much in the mold of Laser Squad, while the later ones diverge more and more into other directions. None of them are particularly bad, but the first two are the ones most beloved. The recent console releases harken back to those two as well.

IAmSinistar: Captain's Log

Day 8

Sails becalmed. No end in sight.

Crew restless. Rations running low. Soon we will have to eat our boots.

Cabin boy tried to lift our spirits by playing the accordion. Threw him overboard.

God have mercy on us.
lol
One of the absolute best features of a sale moving at this oh-so-civilized pace is I'm able to research a lot of games I otherwise wouldn't think of taking a closer look at and so build up my knowledge base of what there is out there and how my gaming interests might broaden. I've picked up a couple of games during the sale that I hadn't considered before, and as they're almost ridiculously cheap there's little risk in trying them out and being disappointed. This is savvy marketing by GOG, of course, but also an opportunity for gamers with established (read: fixed) gaming tastes to take the plunge and explore new waters. Bit of a win-win situation, really. What have you folk picked up that you might have passed over before?

Yeah, that's what people say... I haven't played the entire series so I only know the first two but mainly just the first game and it was great. My current game has been on hold for a month or two but I need to get back into it sometime soon. I haven't made it to Mars yet but I think I'm getting close. :)

With any luck by the time I'm done it'll climb to the top of my Steam rankings for game time. :)

Excellent post. For me, the ones I grabbed that I have glossed over before include IL-2 Sturmovik, Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe, Subwar 2050, and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Some of these I got this time thanks to doing as you did and investigating them further (plus some great feedback from other users), whereas some are of the "splurge on it because at this price it's worth the gamble" category. These sales are very good for expanding one's gaming horizons.
Well, thanks go out to IAmSinistar, again, for letting everyone know of the XCom deal on GamersGate. I pulled the trigger on it just now as it is an excellent deal for DRM Free games!

So again, Thank you IAmSinistart!

Since we're talking about GamersGate and we were talking about Sacred, GamersGate also has a DRM-Free version of Sacred 2.

Yes they do, and it is the Gold edition so it has the expansion "Ice and Blood" with it already! Not a bad price either at $19.95.

My pleasure mate! Until GOG gets them here, it's the best deal on X-COM out there.

That's a pretty eclectic selection, just the kind of unexpected assortment I've been accumulating: SimCity 2000: Special Edition, Tropico 3 Gold Edition, Gemini Rue, Papers, Please, Consortium, La Mulana and Sir, You Are Being Hunted. I'm kind of keen to have a go at these before I sit back to my usual fare, which both pleases and excites me. And all at little cost ;-)

GamersGate does some pretty good discounts on Sacred 2 periodically. I got mine for €4.

Some great choices there! Be warned, only fire up Papers, Please when you are ready for some bleakness. :)

I like how they let you set up alerts for sales. Enabled me to grab some items recently without needing to check their site all the time.

I've never used them before. I have checked them out a few times, but like Humble Bundle, I have never bought anything from them, only here and Steam, that is until today. I like the DRM Free! That is why I buy most of my stuff here. The ones I have on Steam are ones I can't buy anywhere else online for download which is what I prefer. Saves me space which is in top demand in my comp room! ;-)

Edit: Wow, they have 89 pages of DRM free games for Windows.

I have a modest shelf on there, all DRM-free titles. There are a number which I bought there that finally came to GOG. There are also some ones on there that really should be on GOG (besides X-COM) - Gunlok, Harbinger, Perimeter 2, Titan Quest, and the A.I.M. series among them.
