skeletonbow: I'm a big RTS game fan, going back to C&C and then Warcraft 2 and beyond since. Played zillions of hours of RTS with the most hours probably racked up in Starcraft although my favourite RTS of all time is "The Lord of the Rings The Battle For Middle Earth II The Rise of the Witch King" (holy crap that has to be the longest video game name ever made). :) Unlike probably the majority of RTS gamers out there (so it seems to me observationally anyway) that seem to strongly prefer setting the game speed to warp speed as fast as possible so you can't even think and you're controlling one of your units while the other 200 units are standing around doing nothing, I am definitely the type of RTS player that likes to have my units all doing things and not standing around and I play the games at a slower pace so that I actually have time to give them all orders to do stuff and to have time to think about strategy and what I'm actually doing. I'm not a "build guys, send them in battle to their kamakazi death, build and send more" player, but a "devise a strategy, keep my army alive the whole time, savour the strategy and tactics and take my time" kind of guy. :) So I usually start a game on "normal" speed, and if I find that too fast I back it off one notch at a time until comfortable. Once I've become familiar with a game enough I might speed it up a notch or so if I've slowed it down previously.

I hate playing RTS games on greater than "normal" speed though with "horserace" players. That's not strategy to me but rather has a feel of it like playing those mindless zombie attack games on a video game console where the enemies have no AI and you just spray bullets endlessly and run forward. I need real strategy and tactics and thought to keep me interested and a casual pace. I watched several documentaries on Sun Tzu "The Art of War" as well as reading much of the book, and I employ Sun Tzu techniques and strategies in my video game play both against AI players and human opponents and such tactics work awesome. Loads of fun to be had with strategy when I can kick back and relax with them. Drives some folks nuts though so I avoid playing with speed demons. :)

txnca: Speed demons. Sounds like my son. We both started Diablo 3 the same day. By the time I had finished the game at the normal level, he had beaten the game through inferno level, which is like 3 or 4 levels up from normal. Mainly he does it by by passing a lot of content of the game. I have tried to play with him before but it was impossible because I want to explore EVERYTHING while he is content not to.

I'm trying to resist the urge to buy the Flash Sale Spellforce game as well and wait for it to come on sale at a later date. I have SO MANY games in my backlog anyway that I wouldn't be playing it (or any of the earlier Spellforce games) any time soon.

Ah, let's be honest, I'm trying to resist the urge to buy ANY MORE games in the Flash Sale (or bundles for that matter). Whilst my haul is only small in comparison to some *cough* txnca *cough* Gnostic *cough* I've spent around £52 ($86) which is WAY more than I really should have! :-)

txnca: Thank you, *cough* Thank you very much! I am not in the same league as Gnostic though I think. I admit I have went WAY overboard, but the sales are just that good. Anyway, I am sure I will have lots of time to play them and will most likely finish several of them before the end of next month! No more having to get up early and get the kids off to school so can stay up late and play games to my hearts content! ;-)

skeletonbow: YESSSS!!!! I totally play the same way as you. I explore everything everywhere and usually end up finding all of the secret areas, secret goodies, secret missions, chocolatey goodness, solving optional puzzles and quests and end up by the time I'm done a game having a 100% completion or pretty damned close to it. I take the time to pick things off the ground and sell them in games like Diablo/Torchlight etc. and take my time to upgrade my character when I level up, compare various options strategically etc. Most people I play games with are in non-stop action fight kill mode, dont stop to pick up anything or to explore any areas and run looking for the exit/end and miss half the damn game then complain because I "take too long fucking around". I'm not fucking around, I'm enjoying the damned game and I'll do it as a wandering party of 1 if I have to in order to enjoy myself. :)

The best comes when I tell them all the cool loot I got, or special things they missed out on though. :) As a general rule, whatever the "time to complete" is on sites like howlongtobeat.com ... if it says "40 hours" for gameplay, then I am more likely going to get something like 60 hours of gameplay out of it or even more doing the same thing, not counting idle time eating/sleeping while forgetting to shut the game off (ie: on Steam that tracks game time).

LynetteC: Hehehe, I have to get up to take my daughter to school and go to work but I still stay up late and play games (or post on GOG).

What's your backlog like? Mine is just SILLY and it's not just GOG games either. Before I discovered this site, I'd buy CD/DVD games and boxes sets so I have a pile of them sitting in a corner too.
