What a coincidence, I was thinking about almost the same thing yesterday when I was reading the news.

Of course it was worse in the past and we can hardly say we leave in peaceful times but no doubt even with afghanistan, libya, iraq, Chechnya it is way more peaceful than 100 years ago and not to mention 1000


The video is bollocks. Didn't you notice that there was no war in NA and SA at all during first 500 years?

Which is not true of course. Whole empires rise and fell during that time. Not to mention tribal wars, lesser in scale but because of the number as deadly as full scale war.

Same goes for Africa.

Other problem is that the video is based on very limited data. We do know more what happened on 3 of August 1943 at 11am than we know about whole decades 500 years ago.

It can be seen with year 2003 onwards. Iraq is constantly shown to being blown up while fall of Constantinople just had few small explosions. As far as wars go Iraq war can hardly be considered a great deadly conflict. Especially if we consider that most deaths comes from them blowing themselves up.

Wars happened way more often in the past. Smaller in scale (although according to wiki in 755 to 763 15% of world's population lost their lives in a war) but present in greater number.

Not to mention life was so much worse back then in every part of the world even during so called "peaceful times"

The records of SA wars are scarce indeed (wars of NA even more I think) We do have records tough of them happening. How many how often is hard to tell but we do know they were bloody, genocide levels at times.

The point on Iraq war is that it is presented as a major conflict lasting years. In scope of 1000 years it is not that major. Fall of Byzantine Empire for example was long and brutal conflict lasting decades till Constantinople finally fell. Yet it is presented with few blips.

I don't find it untruthful, but maybe a little bit misleading. I'm sure there were tribal wars not represented in that video, but I can't honestly believe that they were near scale with 19th and 20th century war death tolls.

You know what's an even worse number than the death toll of wars? Democide. Rummel estimates that toll to be 262 million deaths in the 20th century alone. I can't say how accurate that number is, but even if you figure it at an even 200 million, that's an outrageous number.
