Vitek: Could be good. I quite enjoyed the first one but it is far from original. Even today I rather play OpenXcom than XCOM.
Still good they are making it. It would be better if they moved it closer to original X-Coms or at least to Long War.
I liked it because it was so different from the original games. At this point, I want the tactical gameplay from the new XCOM to be present in every turn-based strategy ever. The basebuilding could be expanded upon a bit tho, just as interceptions.

Fever_Discordia: 2? TWO? They mean FIVE at least, surely?

Almost as bad as when people call Prince of Persia (2008) 'Prince of Persia 4' Gak!
The last game - X-COM: Enemy Unknown - is considered a franchise reboot, so the next game would be presumably a sequel to that. With the reboot rebasing as "1" would explain the upcoming sequel being called 2. Other game series have put out un-numbered game series have done similar things in the past. Take Grand Theft Auto for example...

GTA 1
GTA 2
GTA 3
GTA Vice City (4th game)
GTA San Andreas (5th game)
GTA 4 (6th game)
GTA 5 (7th game)

In the end it's just a game name. People often put too much thought into numbers used in titles of entertainment products IMHO. I like the band Chickenfoot's way of doing things. The first album is "Chickenfoot" and the 2nd album is called "Chickenfoot III". There is no Chickenfoot II, they named it III on purpose just to confuse people for a laugh. They should call their 3rd album Chickenfoot II just to continue this. :)
Yes!! Omg that looks AWESOME. Day 1 purchase :D

I hope they expand on basebuilding in this game.

PC Gamer mentions a mobile base that you'll have to relocate to avoid detection. Site seems to be getting hammered atm though, since it doesn't display as it should.

Really curious if that mean we'll still have the overworld part of the game. Seems like it'll be focused on guerilla warfare so perhaps not so much shooting down places as intercepting convoys and scout craft etc. Moving the base would seem a risky thing as well.

Glad it's going to be a full on PC title, that should improve the interface somewhat.

It will also officially support mods. PC Gamer article, assuming you manage to get to the site.
The game mechanics are so difficult to understand based on the trailer. I hope they still resemble the original X-COMs.

Similar to 2012's XCOM, at least for the combat. There's also seem to be a melee attack for all characters (#4 in this screenshot). No idea about the strategic part yet.

It is quite good in its essence but I wasn't the biggest fan of it. The things like cover working to certain angel fully and 1 more degree and it was non-existent, too high miss chance for point-blank shots, reinforcements in some missions just appearing out of nowhere right next to you, limited "inventory" or shots going right through cover (that was mostly due graphical presentation of it I guess) ired me quite a bit.

Still I enjoyed the game, only not as I hoped I will.

What I would like improved would be story. I know it certainly isn't the most important in this kind of games but I was disappointed by XCOM ending and hope this one will be better.
For supposedly extremely clever alines the ending was really dumb from their side.
So not one word about economy, resources and research. Streamlined?!
As long as it is as good as the last, I won't complain.

XCOM website mentions ambushing patrols and 'loot enemies for precious gear and artifacts', research will be done on the Avenger, the captured supply ship turned base where you can 'configure and build rooms' in order to research, develop, upgrade.

Did you play the expansion? It fixed quite a few of these things.

Which would provide a convenient explanation for limited building space. A mobile base-ship... I wonder if there's a cosmetic eyepatch available.
