Glitch. At least a glitch can be avoided if you can figure out what caused it. Figuring out how not to replicate a soft lock can be more problematic if you have to restart the game (or your system) every time it happens.

I don't really see the difference between putting something in a box or building a fence around it.

MALOR or MAHAMAN? (For those not familiar with those spells, the former lets you teleport anywhere, while the latter is the Wizardry equivalent of Wish, capable of producing powerful effects (including reviving multiple characters) at the cost of a level.)

Edit: As was pointed out later in the thread, the explanations were in the wrong order, so I switched the spell order.

It appears you misread my explanation; MALOR is the teleport spell.

(Edit: Either that, or you misremembered which spell does what.)
