tinyE: Yes I know Point Break is over 20 years old now but that just seemed really really weird. And then of course Total Recall and Robo Cop. Oh, and a new Spider-Man every ten minutes. XD
I saw the "new" (Amazing) Spider-Man from the TV some weeks ago, for the first time in my life.
Even though I had very low expectations, I was still underwhelmed. All the time I kept thinking what was the point of this re-re-release? To me it felt worse than the decade old earlier Spider-Man movies, even the special effects didn't make me wow. I actually fell asleep at my sofa while watching this remake.
I also just saw the newer Robocop recently. Kudos for them not trying to mimic the old version but telling their own version of the same "story". Still, since this remake was all drama with almost none of the dark humor and sarcasm of the original one, I still felt this new version was an inferior version of the story, but still interesting to see in a way.
One thing that did bother me about the new Robocop was that he actually reminded me of one of those failed "Robocop 2"s in the poor sequel. You know, when in Robocop 2 they present successors to the original Robocop, but they keep failing over and over again, having mental breakdows, shooting around and committing suicide because they can't stand living inside a robot.
Well, that's what this remake Robocop was like as well. After all, he did ask to be put to sleep permanently and had huge mental issues becoming a cyborg, so much that they had to sedate him with drugs.
The original was more subtle, a robot realizing bit by bit he used to be a human, grieving for his lost humanity and trying to regain some of it etc.
