InfraSuperman: Eh. I prefer Magnum Force.

drealmer7: Funny because when I heard "Deadpool" being mentioned here and there in passing I was really confused for a while because I hadn't heard of any of the other Dirty Harry movies being remade and figured they decided to remake that one for some reason. I don't know/follow comic stuff, so had no idea that was what it was until there was some image of it somewhere online.

Pheace: Kids are real dealbreakers sometimes, like Seven in Married with Children, or that incredibly frustrating son in The Strain.
Indeed but sometimes they are awesome like in The School of Rock.

I've been meaning to watch this the one from 1959 but I need to find the right time as it's quite long.
Ben-Who?

amrit9037: Ben-Who?
And the chariot is a TARDIS!
Wasn't Ben Hur the movie which had something like a 1000:1 aspect ratio in the cinema, ie. very ultra widescreen? It wouldn't fit into one movie theater but you had to put three theaters side by side to show it, and even then normal humans with two eyes couldn't watch it (cows, and people with three eyes side by side, could see it though)?

Or something like that. I just remember it always being used as a prime example how much of a movie home viewers are missing because they can't see the whole picture, but something is cut away from the sides.

Like the car in the chariot race?

Elmofongo: And the Trailer is already revealed:

Wow so hollywood finally caved and started rebooting and remaking old school classic academy award winning movies like Ben-Hur.

Now I worry about the Godfather, and Lawrance of Arabia, and Citizen Kane.
Thats been going on for ages. Gladiator was a rehash of The Fall Of The Roman Empire for instance. The problem really lies not in the movie studios, but the general public. Everyone wants more, all the time, online, watch as and when you want. For this growing demand Hollywood, Games Producers, Book writers everyone is furiously bashing out new material, rehashed material, etc. to try to keep up with the demand. This is progress. Watch it, don't watch, it matters not, someone in a house near you will watch it, and someone will buy it for a dollar. (You see what I did there :o)

tinyE: Yes I know Point Break is over 20 years old now but that just seemed really really weird. And then of course Total Recall and Robo Cop. Oh, and a new Spider-Man every ten minutes. XD
I saw the "new" (Amazing) Spider-Man from the TV some weeks ago, for the first time in my life.

Even though I had very low expectations, I was still underwhelmed. All the time I kept thinking what was the point of this re-re-release? To me it felt worse than the decade old earlier Spider-Man movies, even the special effects didn't make me wow. I actually fell asleep at my sofa while watching this remake.

I also just saw the newer Robocop recently. Kudos for them not trying to mimic the old version but telling their own version of the same "story". Still, since this remake was all drama with almost none of the dark humor and sarcasm of the original one, I still felt this new version was an inferior version of the story, but still interesting to see in a way.

One thing that did bother me about the new Robocop was that he actually reminded me of one of those failed "Robocop 2"s in the poor sequel. You know, when in Robocop 2 they present successors to the original Robocop, but they keep failing over and over again, having mental breakdows, shooting around and committing suicide because they can't stand living inside a robot.

Well, that's what this remake Robocop was like as well. After all, he did ask to be put to sleep permanently and had huge mental issues becoming a cyborg, so much that they had to sedate him with drugs.

The original was more subtle, a robot realizing bit by bit he used to be a human, grieving for his lost humanity and trying to regain some of it etc.

Of course, while the original had a gentle gay subtext, the remake is going to have full-blown, hardcore ...

No?
I like the idea. Unfortunately it's executed pretty poorly on several levels, the worst being a lead actor being a complete nobody. Who is he? Oh right, an actor from a TV show I didn't watch probably.
Meanwhile the people making the new Predator completely fail to understand what a Predator movie is supposed to be.

I was going to make a thread about that...

WHY IRON MAN 3 OF ALL MOVIES?!

"Thus, The Predator is moving ahead, and Black intends to “treat it like it was Iron Man 3 instead of just another little movie… let’s really do it right this time”.

Beacause it made over a billion dollars and kids love Iron Man, and it was funny, and it went boom, pew pew pew pew.

Although I guess seeing the Predator take off his helmet to reveal Ben Kingsley might be quite funny.

Again this is the second time I have seen people reference a Marvel Superhero movie as inspiration to making a different movie that is not Superhero like.

Like that D&D movie being inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy :P
