I guessed that, but is that a genuine stereotype? I had always heard of people in New York being nice (and experienced it myself) so I just wondered if that was actually something people said...

zeogold: I was just slinging stereotypes in that entire paragraph. I have no idea what New York is like.

The underlying paranoia of different things that are not congruent to our own, applies to many nations but it seems to have a raging boner over here for some reason.

X-com: Here are some other traits from Poland:
*snip*
-People use their emergency lights to thank someone on the road for letting them in, tried this in Denmark and the guy behind me lifted his arms in a "WTF are you doing breaking down in front of me" manner
Lin545: This is a standard international truckman "thank you", used also by car drivers. Worldwide. *snip*

X-com: Well this may be a truckman's thank you but I have never seen this in my life, driving in Australia for 15 years and all the times I drove in Germany.
My wife's brother works as a trucker in Germany. This is the sign.
X-com: I heard this is illegal too, because these lights "should" only be used in the event of a breakdown or to let drivers behind you know about something in front of them so they can brake early.
They are engaged and disengaged for 1 second. Keeping the distance is problem of the guy behind. Also, this.

kaboro: Now that you guys mentioned it, ive actually seen that occasionally here in Canada, only seen trucks doing it and very rarely. I didnt know it meant something, but yeah the truck did that after i let him pass.

Subservient nature of the people usually congested with following words by the Slovenian media: "You are a servant and a servant you will stay." Which means we have no national values, no patriotism, no confidence as a nation. We let the governement do what ever it want's. There is no company in this country that pays the bills for ordered goods in time/or ever and operates fully legally. Grey economy and tax evasion are seen as a virtue here. Breaking laws is normal since we live by the second rule (irony): "Rules are made to be broken." We are probably world champions when it comes to suing people. Its normal that each neighbor has at least one legal proceeding against his next neighbor and more. Corruption permeates the whole country. And if you add everything what Charon 121 has written about Croatia to Slovenia you might get a very clear picture of how things work here. It will take decades before we become a normal democratic country.

Its starting to be the same here in Canada too. Its not the fault of the people, its the medias that are stirring the sh*t and downright instigating this paranoia.

tinyE: Hey kaboro, little OT here, but the last time I was in Winnipeg I noticed the traffic lights go yellow before a red and a green. Is that true throughout Canada? It seems odd to me because it's kind of like telling the drivers to get ready to slam on the gas. :P I didnt know it meant something, but yeah the truck did that after i let him pass.

kaboro: Sigh, i hate gog forums, i just replied but the reply vanished in nirvana somewhere.....and maybe im double posting this right now, never know with gog. Anyway no, its not like that in the rest of Canada.
Having a yellow after a red is not only useless but also very dangerous.
Someone on red might decide to take off on yellow instead of waiting for the green, while the crossing car might decide to burn a yellow thats a little "ripe".
