Hi

Just fishing for opinions here, will Windows 11 cause some GOG titles, espeically the older titles, to have problems until GOG get around to re-tooling everything to work with W11? Or do you think there will be little or no issues?

Thanks!
As far as I am aware, Windows 11 is basically Windows 10 with some different looking GUI and a few changes. So, everything that worked on Windows 10, should work with that, everything that didn't, won't. Thus I don't expect any reroll for the system.

From what I read, it's more of a fork of Win10. Maybe the more updates it gets, the compatibility with older titles will get lower. But for now, they should probably work fine on Win11.

No, it won’t cause problems. Windows has always been compatible, and likely will be far into the future.
Fears of I compatability come from the removal of support from awful drm software, and from moving to 64bit.
If you are that worried have an offline version of windows, so long as it’s offline it doesn’t matter about being updated.

There were a tonne of threads on this when 11 was announced.

General consensus is that no, it's very similar under the hood to 10 (basically, think a feature update) and that there's no point worrying until it has been released and people have real life experiences using it.

There was another thread scaremongering about how Windows 11 was going to break all the old games, but again, there's no reason to worry about it unless there's real evidence after release (and a reasonable amount of time for bug fixes) that it does break things.

Remember that they're only stopping producing an x86 version of the OS (as fundamentally all modern PCs have x64 processors). Most people are already running x64 versions of Windows 10 - and x86 programmes work via the WoW64 layer without any problem.

To people trying to use their computer like a computer and not a fucking mobile toy? Yes, it absolutely will. It's Microsoft's new mission in life, to fuck with their users.

To games and Win32 applications compatibility? Likely not, I would say absolutely not, as Windows 11 is just some shitty, pathetic, copycat and mobile-centric skin over the already tested Windows 10 OS architecture.

Yep, I am aware. There are a few issues with the move to 64bit though. I note some installers for instance refuse to work, no problem as you can extract yourself.
Does Windows 11 even increase the kernel number?

Win11 is no more mobile than Win10 already.
Well it's new Windows,so assume new problems by default.

You should keep up with the actual news about Windows, not just rumors/arguments/forums.

Almost everything Microsoft has been said about Windows 11 is about "optimizing" this and that for mobile or other form factor consumption. Everything EXCEPT a fucking functioning and totally customizable PC operating system...

They even fucked up the Contextual Menu of the graphics shell (File Explorer). The fucking contextual menu...

Mr.Caine: Well it's new Windows,so assume new problems by default.
this is what i always assumed. but then again the move from Win8 to Win10 was much greater.
for now it does seem to be mostly an anoying UI downgrade and an added requirement for newer SSD/HDD(Secure Boot capable) and a webcam.

but the webcam part seems to be just for laptops and every laptop i've seen in recent years have got one that's good enough.
www.windowscentral.com/starting-2023-windows-11-will-require-laptops-have-cameras

Have a resolution of High-Definition (HD) or better

Auto Exposure (AE)

Auto White Balance (AWB)

And with 'Windows as a service' forced updates, telemetry, programs you don't need, windows store and secure boot, any advantages you get will come with handcuffs and them watching you.

I'm keeping up with Win11 that is actually installed on my PC and works better than any Win10 version ever did.

The major/minor version still shows as 10.0. The build number continues in increment, of course.

(At least in the beta channel. Maybe they'll increment major/minor versions once it goes live. But NT kernel version hasn't always correlated to the version that's "printed on the box".)
