I am on Windows 10, have been for the past few months. After having Windows 8, it was one of those "it sucks", because Windows 7 was much better as far a user experience goes. Windows 10 is quite a bit better than Windows 8 as far as user experience (my own personal one), and is what I would choose if you need to upgrade.

But are you compatible with win 10? Aren't relationships kinda two-way street? =)
sidenote: mind boggling is that Gabriel Knight 3 asks a disc every time. The gog version.

Even if win10 is supported there is still a note:
Please be advised that Windows 10 operating system will receive frequent hardware driver and software updates following its release; this may affect game compatibility
So, games may or may not work, do it on your own risk.

I'd take the plunge and swim in it a bit. You do know how to make backups right? Heck, even Windows 10 allows you to revert to your previous OS (but they limit the time to do so).
I understand that "operating systems" are a crucial part of several others' lives and business operations around the world. Some won't change because "it just works". When I saw a couple of the machines at the hospital where my daughter passed away, running "Windows 95" and "DOS", I was horrified.
My money nor the money from the insurance company wasn't improving technology.
Lighten up a bit, take a chance, it won't kill you. :)

EDIT: Yes, it seemed slow. Is it DirectDraw messing the game or something?
EDIT 2: Perhaps I figured it out. Open the folder where you installed Divine Divinity, find a file called configtool.exe and open it, then change the "New rendering system" to "Software". This made the loading and the game visuals FASTER than what I got before.

I know that the list of games said to be incompatible (or, most likely, untested) seems daunting, but out of the 30 that I own, only 3 just don't work. The others do work either after re-installing some components (like DirectPlay for Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich and the XNA framework Redistributable for Dust: An Elysian Tale).
Those that flat-out don't work for me are:
- Soul Reaver 2
- XIII
- Tex Murphy: Overseer (to be fair, that one didn't work with Windows 7 either)
There are some with problems
- Divine Divinity (slow performance, but there's a fix for that (originally for Windows 8))
- The Longest Journey (works fine, but it crashes after quitting the game (annoying))
- Pandemonium (Doesn't work. But you can replace the winmm file and install the new version of nGlide to make it work).
- Septerra Core (bad performance, but there are new video files on the forums that makes the game work flawlessly. And to be fair, it ran like crap on Windows 7 and 8 too)
- Ys games (most of them works fine, but you have to run the DirectX 9 version or they won't work at all. No idea why).
- Wizardry 8 (works fine, but crashes when exiting the game)
Note that I haven't tested:
- Aquanox 2
- Baldur's Gate 2
- Fallout 2
- The Temple of Elemental Evil
That's my experience with Windows 10 with the games I own.

Pretty much. Since there's no 3D models (that I've seen so far), it's the best compromise.
