DRM-free is the main reason I came here, as many of you have as well - I imagine. We indeed are a niche market - but that's exactly what GOG wants to cater to, being who they are - as gamers. As long as that idea lives and guides their decisions in the future, we need not worry about Steam.

As long as we stand together as a community and advocate DRM-free for what it is, GOG will continue to grow.

How is he trolling? amok and Pheace weren't being Steam fanboys, they're being like me: Pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of both stores.
In fact, I'd have to say that if you think one guy pointing out a weakness of GOG and another guy debunking a supposed weakness of Steam are being Steam fanboys, then you're actually the GOG fanboy since you dislike seeing anything negative said about GOG or anything positive said about Steam, no matter how weak these positives or negatives are.

I hope this doesn't come across as rude or accusatory, but seriously, if you can't take something nice said about a place you hate or something bad said about a place you love, don't enter a discussion. You only ever get the spread of ideas through dissenting opinions.

This is kind of what people are currently worried about, though. GOG is a company like any other, and they're trying to make money. A lot of forumites here question how far they'll go to do so.
Again, I hate to be the pessimist, but realistically, I really, really doubt that.

Oh, I think Steam DOES care for its users. But I also think they're trying to shape the marketplace and the process of buying and "owning" games, and doing so to work things out in their favor. Some of the things they're doing seem like they're trying to make PC games more like console games: auto-updates, SteamBox, Big Picture, etc.

And I think there is a large portion of the buying public who will either embrace those things or at least have no problems accepting them.

Other than that, I agree with Smannesman in post 6. gOg do compete with Steam, and they do it by not copying Steam. A ~10% market share does not mean that gOg are not successful in what they are doing.

They are. As last resort, there is always cheap Steam activation about 1.5-2$ for single play.

I never said "No reason!" Infact i found a wierd discrepancy, my "install script" file did not match the exe in which they were updated. My point is that i did not cheat, and i do not ever want to have an unfair advantage over gamers such as yourself, cheaters annoy me too...

I'm not questioning how well stuff sells on DRM-free services, I'm questioning how well they sell on DRM-free services in comparison to DRM ones.
And on top of that, the Witcher games can arguably be considered outliers in the data because the games were made by a company with a DRM-free stance, meaning that of course a good deal of them, possibly even a majority, are going to be bought on DRM-free platforms.
Even if it works, the frequency is no doubt less, and the likeliness of getting caught is higher, I imagine. It's still got to be easier to accomplish it without DRM than it is WITH DRM.

I think it's possible. The guys who head up CDP are brilliant entrepreneurs. It might take 5-7 years but digital distribution is young. Look how much Steam itself has changed over the years.
