Arcadius-8606: Incorrect - That link was posted on reddit awhile back
What's incorrect now? The original source and study? Or where these figures come from?
Arcadius-8606: and it has a break down of the data which was pulled and it was only the major companies like Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, EA and such. Still looking for it.
So a random guy on reddit paid Newzoo a lot of money and got through the paywall and dug into the report and posted all this on Reddit? kind soul. And it occurs to me what you just listed probably represents the majority of the revenue for PC gaming - Steam alone is 75% of the market...
Arcadius-8606: Why post a black boxed data link when we can't verify, though?
It's competitive data - they won't release their company's methodology and the details of the report, as they sell that to interested firms. It's not science - there is little transparency.
But once again, my point is irrelevant whether the exact figure is 23% market share or 28% for PC gaming. What matters is that console gaming is incredibly lucrative, more is spent per capita, and major titles routinely fare better there than on PC despite the differences in userbase and shortly after release instead of with the long-tail. THis is why they are focused on.
I'm not sure I'm getting through with these points, but feel free to argue the exact numbers once again for whatever reason that to me seems of little importance in this discussion.
Arcadius-8606: That link you posted seems to be damaged.
I hate the GOG forums platform :) try searching for 'newzoo videogames 2020' or similar. My original link from 'wepc' reported on that and other studies and collected them in one place. But the original figures for games revenue and market share come from the Newzoo analytical study, with the highlights in my broken link or your search results.
