The problem with simple confirmation prompts is that they're too easy to ignore and just accept, kind of like mandatory pre-installation EULAs. I prefer the Gentoo method. Requiring a little effort makes it more likely you'll think about it first. I've rejected several packages because I didn't like their license. Then again, at 115 lines now for me, it is a pain to maintain, like most of my other exception lists (still probably the shortest). --autounmask-license=y will add the line automatically, with only etc-update required to apply the changes. Otherwise, it doesn't even directly tell you what to do:

As usual, gentoo fails hard in the documentation department. In fact, it recommends you go the the MASKED PACKAGES section of the man page, which tells you nothing about how to edit package.license. Also, if you auto-unmask, it won't tell you where to find/read the license file, but it will tell you the right man page, even though you don't really need it:

The following license changes are necessary to proceed:
(see "package.license" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
# required by www-client/google-chrome (argument)
>=www-client/google-chrome-95.0.4638.69 google-chrome

No reason. Another Ubuntu derivative for home users, right? I guess I could use it too, if I felt I wasn't happy with what I am already using.

Oh and it apparently has GNOME by defauilt, not a big fan of that but I guess I could use it too. I tend to use XFCE with Mint because XFCE is supposed to be lightweight (doesn't use much resources for useless eye-candy etc.) and does everything I want from a desktop environment.

What if Microsoft decided your hardware is not eligible? And what prevent them to restrict their OS to more drastic thing in the future. And in the future when you'll buy your new hardware and the update will be paid only you will pay just to remove some stupid spying bloatware.

My memory may be failing me, but I always thought "clippy" was the annoying assistant in Microsoft Office products, while the "puppy assistant" was some generic nuisance in... was it Windows XP already?

And dont act like you didn't know that Microsoft rejected a lot of device because they decide they not meet the stupid requirement so yes what prevent them to ask for more drastic condition in their future OS knowing that most of user will rather buy a new seup than switching to Linux.

I like this quote from the File Explorer article, which demonstrates Microsoft's expected behavior pretty well: Download stuff behind the user's back, and make a feature hard for the average user to disable, and slap on a cartoon dog to give it a friendly face. Also, from reading this, it looks like you can't disable the downloads without disabling the advanced searching entirely, but that may be inaccurate.
