MeowCanuck: Are you saying you've never had that happen before? No boomer or Xer ever complained about "kids these days" and talking fondly about the old days? The days where they had to remember phone numbers, spend a whole weekend at the library to borrow books and do research, saying 60s-80s music was better than what we have today, etc. and chastising on how entitled, narcissistic, lazy, spoiled, and less respectful everyone is today?

It's all nostalgia or false memory bias. I cannot tell you how often older people vented to me about this stuff during volunteering and work. Honestly, just old, impatient people frustrated with their aging lives pining for their fleeting youth that they'll never get back, so they take it out on innocent young people all around them. Though they conveniently ignore how much better technology, internet, and streamlining of outdated practices has made our lives better and more efficient for those who know how to use those tools well.
Happened especially here on gog, so many old grumpies,
but it is not always the case. I wrote nope to reasonable things young people like , that somehow we dont fully understand.
Taste is not that subjective, fe gangsta rep is clearly for very dumb people.
Ethots "mistakely" show their asses on twitch and watching/giving them money is another stupid thing to do.

So in short, many things "younglings" do/like is stupid. Criticizing them is not "adultitis".

Some rap is extremely vain for example like Soulja Boy - Crank That, which is self-explanatory. Eminem - Lose Yourself is a glowing example of powerful 'gangster rap' that has powerful meaning behind its lyrics: to focus only on the present and take advantage of every good opportunity in life that comes along. Even songs like Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise, at a shallow level, glorifies gangsters. However, if you consider the context and analyze the lyrics, it's a social critique of how poor the hood life actually is and why only fools would pursue such a career to dissuade aspirational listeners from ever considering it. Though with every audience, some people completely miss the point.

Now if you don't like that music, that's fine. I personally don't enjoy American country. But saying it's for dumb people is quite telling of either your close-mindedness or your ability to interpret creative works and think about them critically. Even if you can't, and I also can't since my mind isn't artistic either, there are dozens of articles, video essays, or discussions out there where you can make an attempt to understand before you fully condemn something.

Ethots "mistakely" show their asses on twitch and watching/giving them money is another stupid thing to do.
E-thots today are just online strippers. Strip bars are expensive and a hassle. You have to go look up the dress code so you can actually enter, dress up, go to the bank and withdraw cash, drive down there, stay 6 feet away from the stage, be surrounded by other drunk perverts in your peripheral vision, and have to wait out 20 minutes of driving to get back home to relieve blue balls. And if I'm getting a lap dance, I'm out $120 for 15 mins of dancing. Either way, I have to either drive myself back while being extremely aroused and distracted OR call a taxi to get drunk and aroused me back home. Either way, it's another 20 minutes before I can relieve myself.

OTOH, Twitch e-thots let me view them from the comfort of my own home without all the awkward social discomfort and blue balling. Can be in my briefs without creepy Bernie in the corner giving me a quick smirk and wink when his favourite dancer comes on stage, or having to deal with an expensive drinking tab and a barmaid expecting a 20% tip because she's wearing skimpier clothes. Just pay a few dollars, enjoy the stream, and then go to bed. Not that I've ever used this service before because porn of course. But it's a good option to have if I ever consider it.

So in short, many things "younglings" do/like is stupid. Criticizing them is not "adultitis".
Nothing wrong with criticizing. I do it all the time. But your type of criticizing is based more on emotions than it is on logic. And that's where I come in.

Good. That means I'm not old, as I only criticize young people for things that I fully understand to be unreasonable. :D

Crosmando: People who watch other people play video games instead of playing them yourself and making your own judements almost always have a passive, effeminate, childish personality.
Except times when a game has a very boring/crappy gameplay and an interesting story that is better watched without interruptions.

I don't care if they are, they are just humans like you and me. Except they are more well known.

Where is your objective means of measuring whether times have improved or not? After all, having only lived in one time you personally don't understand how it would be to live in another time and have only hearsay and strawmen to subjectively back your opinion up. Remember, appeal to self evident truth isn't a valid argument.

There is another inherent problem with this argument, over-generalization. Not everyone born in 2000 agrees with you that life is better with smartphones and as such dumbphones remain an option for those who don't want to be connected all the time. Your entire argument is that YOU like certain things and are projecting what YOU like onto everyone else to make your argument seem stronger with an appeal to majority.

So in short, the issue is that people have different opinions and rather than actually defend your beliefs you attacked the people who you claim might hold the beliefs.

Man, are people just good at "gotcha!" moments in here?

You can use a variety of demographics and economic indicators to get a rough indication of general population happiness. Specifically for Canada:

- Steady labour force participation
- GDP per capita quadrupled compared to 1980s
- Life expectancy increased by 6 years from 1980s to now
- Infant mortality rate cut in half compared to 1980s to 0.5%
- Alcohol consumption slow decline compared to 10 years ago
- Lower homicide rates

You can find similar stats on your own country's statistics department website or Google's World Bank link. Overall, life has gotten better.

Though I do admit that there were personal items I expressed, if you're resourceful, the internet has been a boon if you use it correctly. I use it as a resource to learn and do everything outside my knowledge and expertise. I didn't go to school for trade school, I just Youtubed everything and fixed my washing machine and dryers or learn new skills by myself.

Same with other hobbies like fitness, cooking, bikes, tech, new languages, in-depth media discussion etc. I wouldn't be able to do this stuff easily myself without the internet, having to contract some specialist to help me out, or having to put in more effort than what it's worth. I can Google [Scholar] nearly anything and get the same applicable solution a guy before me had asked for years ago.

Yeah, social media has made all the younger people depressed, more anxious, and less satisfied with life, but that's their conscious decision to stay connected. I cut all my social media off 8 years ago and overall I'm quite happy with life.

Because we live in a world where people either worship or hate.
Maybe cause parents these days will throw their kids an ipad or something to entertain themselves and end up growing up with youtubers. Even kids in strollers have some kind of tablet they just browse on.
Also like IG peeps, I think they mostly show their energetic engineered persona and people get the wrong idea of who they really are. They also might not know they are sponsored to push shit.

I think a recent poll here of middle schoolers on what they wanna be when they grow up, showed youtuber as top for both boys and girls. To be fair, I have not watched any youtubers here, so I'm not sure if they are good or not. But I have seen articles on some famous ones not setting a very good example and getting arrested.

Btw what is the age range that you are referring to who worship youtubers?

Underage teenagers aren't going to strip clubs nor ordering hookers to the door and even if they were they aren't being misadvertised from a business like twitch that is acting like a abusive fraudulent pimp.

This harms the creators that had already suffered from hacks pretending to be retarded manchildren stealing the limelight and potential cash from people who genuinely were a bit immature or goofy.
