Kelefane: Heck yeah. I keep waiting for GOG to post a release of Dungeon Master, lol. Probably wishful thinking :(
Have checked out the free source port? http://dmweb.free.fr/

I know it's not as good as having it on the library but it's pretty close
How come Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace is a free game? Is it even legally possible?

tomimt: I do wonder who owns the rights for DM these days, considering FTL Games has been defunct since 1996. There was that one Japan-only title in 1998, so maybe the rights for the series are there.
Last I heard, Doug Bell and Wayne Holder own the rights to Dungeon Master.

tinyE: OLD RPGS. None of this 2019 stuff!

I'm talking OLD! 2010! Back before electricity or horseless carriages!

The other day a kid asked me what a record player was.
He was last seen sinking to the bottom of Lake Superior tied to what looked suspiciously like a chuck of concrete from my house.
Ah record players are new again circa 2016-2018; resurgence fad.
No casettes are a sign of living too long; I mean why on earth would anything use magnetic tape... yet apparently some data storage is still being done on tape *facepalm.

Anyways *ahem* dungeon master .. i'd buy that. Though i'd prefer something in the engine legend of grimrock rocks :P got to love the look of those myconids.
They already have the best old games like the Witcher 2 and 3 and Oblivion.

That was kind of my point. I'm 40 years old. Those games are pretty much brand new.

Speaking of which, Neverwinter Nights can feel kind of new to me unless I think about it rationally. I still remember the review in PC-gamer and the selling points like yesterday. But then when I put it in perspective, that there are teenagers around who are gonna look for a job next that didn't even exist when the game was first released, that's when I accept that it's one old game.

Half-Life 2 is also one of those games that will always feel like a new game to me. Same with Bioshock.

Heck, anything from the PS3/360-era is kind of new. I think it's because that's when 3D became more functional and natural, not much has happened since then compared to the huge technical leaps of previous generations.

Edit: But if I'm being honest with myself, the same feeling applies to music and movies. Darn it, it has nothing to do with technology, I'm just sprinting to my grave without realizing it.

Agreed. My instinctive idea of old games is pre 1998 or so. Only after a quick objective look do I manually move that bar to around 2008. But my first thought every time is late 90's. 2010 was a lot longer ago than many realize.
Hell, my idea of a old game is anything before the advent of windows 95.

It's certainly possible for a game to fall out of copyright and go into the public dmaine, but it does not happen very often.

I guess there must be some legal problem with DM for GOG not to have it, since it has been requested quite a bit.
It's a straight up MS DOS game,(in the PC version) and DOS games are pretty easy to bundle with a DOSBOX wrapper and run fine on a modern computer, so ithas to be some legal issues.
