I have a Prime membership for multiple reasons, not just gaming. Oddly, Prime Gaming has been DRM-free friendly. I claim over 20 DRM-free games, not including the GOG games they give away. Note: I did not know these games are DRM free on prime gaming.

Do you think Prime Games will continue this DRM-free approach in the future? What is everyone's opinion about prime gaming?

Right now they have the GOG version of Wolfenstein: The New Order and The Beast Inside. DM me if want my Wolfenstein key. haha
I am guessing (this is just speculation though, I have no actual information about this) that GOG worked out a deal with Amazon behind the scenes wherein GOG pays Amazon a certain amount of money to help distribute GOG games in a promotional way.

And if that be so, then whether Amazon would continue to do that or not would be dependent on whether or not GOG continues to pay into the deal.
Prime gaming platform is a DRM-free itself.. don't think they are suddenly going to force you into installing other shit/. Not expecting them to become DRM, as people only claim games(don't see many people playing prime games) or for other in-game loot... and amazon is well aware of it.

I'm surprised because games I claim are DRM-free are pretty good imo.

Icewind Dale EE
Book of Demons
Baldurs Gate EE
WRC 7

While I very welcome that they currently focus on DRM free games, I think this will remain a niche for a while.

Not partnering up with a DRM storefront is also a wise decision if they want to leave the door open for something of theit own. If they at some point build their own DRM system, they can just dump GOG and whatever other DRM free partner they have. If they were partnered up with Steam and Epic for example, they would have to come up with a solution to either transfer the licences or keep supporting it.

I guess they need something to attract customers, and let's face it, gaming isn't Amazon's main business.

I presume when you say their games are DRM-Free, you are referring to more than games from other stores that momentarily become available on Prime? In other words, games from their standard catalog? I've never checked those games out, to see if they were DRM-Free after installing or whether indeed they were downloaded as a DRM-Free installer?

I've seen games available at Prime, that are a monthly freebie from Epic and Steam etc. Are they all DRM-Free?

Excuse my ignorance, but I only ever had an Amazon Prime account briefly ... just the trial for a month, and apart from the free game I signed up for (Quake), they did not impress me much. That said, they do have good offerings now and then.

I kinda doubt it's the case (with GOG paying Amazon). Prime's Gaming section is still quite niche service that strives for bigger user base and might be even desperate for securing attractive titles each month. Before they had one-year deal with Electronic Arts and I can't imagine it was EA paying for promotion and not other way around as these were biggest games offered in Prime at the time, drawing people attention and encouraging to subscribe. Possibly after that deal ended only replacement willing to participate they could find was GOG, for which it would be obviously good way to get some focus as well. Also note how many of these GOG titles were published by Bethesda so there might be some three-way going on.
And finally I don't see what money GOG could offer to freakin Amazon for such exclusivity. I'm pretty sure if Amazon could they would gladly offer "latest and greatest" instead of few (or even more) years old games that are probably not terribly appealing for masses. But maybe they simply can't and settle on whatever can get their hands on.
I've been a big fan of the Amazon Gaming collection of DRM Free games and the keys they giveaway for other storefronts. Some of their games are not even offered elsewhere from what I can tell, most recently titles like Art of Fighting 3 and Ninja Commandos. That said, I do not know what the business model is there, I think they are also trying to drive traffic to their Luna cloud gaming platform.

Agree they just added Metal slug 4 to claim, which is not on GOG.

You must use their own client to download the games, but the installed games are DRM-free.
I have never heard about any game that would have some additional DRM.

No, there is no DRM-free guarantee.
The games are whatever they may be.

Obviously GOG games are DRM-free, and games from other places can probably be tweaked DRM-free, if they aren't that to begin with. But there are no guarantees that the third party keys wouldn't also have some third party DRM.

I think it's a brilliant service.
Just the freebies from GOG justify the price, if you only count price mathematically.

But in addition, you get monthly freebies from their own selection (of very varying quality), and on top of everything, you get access to Prime Video for the same price.

It's by far the best "running investment" I can think of, access to games and movies for a few coins per month.

Obviously the game and movie selection could be better, but if you claim one game and watch maybe two movies per month, you have financially already gained something compared to buying/renting that stuff from somewhere else.

I can see where that would be good for many folk, but I already share my son's Prime account currently, and while I do watch some TV series, I don't trust the vagaries of streaming for good movies. I admit the glitches are few and far between but it only has to let me down once, to be one time too many. I won't even take a toilet break or any break during a good movie. I'm also not someone who has to watch stuff on a regular basis, and only watch when the mood takes me, so a lot of the time it would feel like I was throwing money away. Add to that being a collector, and wanting the best quality, and streaming has very little appeal to me.

Streaming is good for me, to watch something sooner, and check out things I might like that I would probably not buy. But anything I really care about I buy on disc. I even did that with Wheel Of Time, which I watched twice, then bought the blu-ray of ... I enjoyed it that much ... and that is something I rarely do. I will probably do the same with the Reacher TV series, when cheap enough on disc.

P.S. I do take note of the games appearing on Prime, and because I already have a lot of games, I already have many of the freebies. I also have the same issue at GOG, where at least 50% of the time I already have whatever free game they occasionally give us.

Well, if you happen to buy them on Amazon then you have free shipment in Prime too.

I buy them locally in AUS when I get enough discount at JB Hifi.
in the UK, i have many benefits from Prime, and the games are basically just a bonus for me as it is not the prime (sic) reason why I am a Prime subscriber. but that I know differ from country to country. for example, Amazon here has partnered with Morrisons, so I get groceries deliverd on the door without delivery fees.

did you ever have issue with short stocks / missing items / really really bad "alternative" options placed in your order?
seems to be common.
(i dont use amazon at all so just interested based on the morrisons thing given my neighbours use that)
