Watching Back to the Future again.
A few years ago I spotted the "Back to the Future - The Game" game on GOG and thought it looked decent and worth checking out so I bought it. I gave it a brief trial and thought it seemed cool but set it aside for a later playthrough. Recently I've been going through a bit of a point-n-click gaming phase and decided to give this one a shot, so I fired it up yesterday and spent a few hours playing it. It brought back some fond memories of the original movie and the characters, in particular Chris Lloyd.
So tonight I decided damnit, I need to watch all of the Back to the Future movies! Only... I don't know if I've ever seen all 3 of them or not as I only had recollection of the first movie for sure. So, I sat down and put the original film on figuring I'd enjoy it somewhat as it's literally been 3 decades since I saw it. I watched it in the theatre when it came out and don't think I've seen it since except perhaps once on pay TV a year later or so.
Wow! What an incredible trip down memory lane! The entire movie was absolutely fantastic and brought back such wonderful memories of the 80s! It has a great story, great dialogue, great acting, a good sense of humour, great special effects, and oooohhh that Delorean! I was gripped to the movie the whole time and didn't even want to pause it to take care of business so to speak LOL. I think I might have ended up enjoying it even more than when it first came out! I like watching the occasional old movie from my youth, but I don't think I enjoyed many as much as I did reliving this great film. It felt just as fresh and exciting to watch today as it did when it came out.
What's funny is that just before I put it on I was thinking "gee, it's been 30 years... they should do a remake of this some time soon". I figured why not? 30 years have passed, we've got better technology now, CGI, etc. - they could do a high tech remake of it and it'd be great! However, after watching the movie I feel very different about that. The movie is perfect just the way it is and I don't think a remake could capture all of what made the original so awesome. The performance of Michael J. Fox and Chris Lloyd are what ultimately made the whole thing tick. ONE POINT TWENTY ONE GIGAWATTS!!! Some high tech remake might look cool and all, but there's no way they could capture the original magic and the timeless characters that were forever etched in time in the original movie.
I have to recommend that everyone who has fond memories of seeing this back in the 80s, as well as those who have never seen it before do yourselves a favour and add this movie to your watch queue, it has really held up very strongly over the test of time for sure. I'm so glad that I decided to put it on tonight, I figured I would enjoy it again but ended up enjoying it 10 times more than I expected!
Now I'm grabbing some snacks and a drink and putting on part 2 to find out if I've ever seen it before... :)
