Tim@HoodedHorse: Thanks! Though there's only 1 KatHawk Studios game (Alliance of the Sacred Suns)--Terra Invicta is by Pavonis (creators of the Long War mods for XCOM), Falling Frontier is by Stutter Fox Studios (a solo dev in Australia), and Old World is developed by Mohawk Games (and designed by Soren Johnson)
Now that you mention it, i hope there's also plans to bring here Old World (i mean when it is possible to do it, given the actual exclusivity-btw, i hate exclusivities but i do understand the circumstances as you explain in your recent interview at the Gamescom Asia media day)

Anyway, releasing here is really good news for strategy fans. I am specially excited for Alliance, but all games seem interesting. Terra Invicta is more or less an X-Com right? and Failling Frontier is...a bit like Homeworld but more deep? At least that's the impression i get from the trailer.

Thanks!

RafaelRamus: Great games all 3! All 3 were on my wishlist already, I'm glad I'll be buying them here rather than at Steam!
Thanks, glad to hear you are interested in the games!

Absolutely! Old World's coming soon page is already live here at GOG:

https://www.gog.com/game/old_world

Old World will release the same time on GOG as Steam, in Q2 2022 (with an expansion campaign as well).

Glad to hear you like the other games as well! Terra Invicta does have thematic similarities to XCOM, but in gameplay it is rather different. It is a real-time with pause grand strategy game. There is tactical combat in it, but that is also real-time with pause, and is space battles rather than land (land warfare is simulated in other ways, but not directly controlled).
These titles seem a tad interesting and albeit complicated at first sight they look rewarding as heck. Anyone here (already played some!) care to share some opinions on these? I'm all ears!

edit: played demos and all! ;)

lol it seems that i missed the announce for Old Wolrd here last month, sorry for that. The actual design of Gog's site makes this things sometimes because news threads disappear quickly from the frontpage and get buried in the big general forum... Maybe someday they will change it again, old design was much better, imho :S

But thank you very much for the confirmation about Old World and for the extra info about Terra Invicta. "Grand strategy" are big words and i'm very curious and even more interested than before. Thanks!
I add Alliance of the Sacred Suns to my wishlist .

Same here. Thankfully gog kinda shone some light on these titles here otherwise they would go (for me almost completely) unnoticed on other stores. Wishlisted for sure, will grab some since these look amazing!!!

WinterSnowfall: I does look pretty neat. I've had my share of 4X games and I'm a bit reluctant to try "yet another one" at this point, but Falling Frontier colors me interested, mainly because it appears to be more of an RTS than a 4X "it's gonna take you 72 hours and some serious head scratching to get in a position to win a game". If anything, it looks more like a Conquest: Frontier Wars (ha!) of the 2020s.
avatar
Breja: Unfortunately, I'm pretty bad even at "normal" RTSes :( I was never very good at them to begin with, and I only seem to have gotten worse with age. When the second campaign in Polanie 2 (KnightShift if you prefer) wiped the floor with me this year I realised I should probably throw in the towel and retire from the genre altogether. I guess I need RTS games to come with a super easy "story" difficulty setting like some RPGs do these days :D
Maybe if you find some patient nice people to play with that isnt too agressive and more chill to the gameplay/doesnt mind waiting for newbies/greenhorns or people wth disabiltys you can find some enjoyment in it again.
But then you probably need a game thats not too dificult to learn as well.
the only suggestion that comes to my mind is command and conquer
Though finding some relaxed nice chilled people to play with that can learn you the ropes and few tricks to make playing it a bit easyer are probably harder. Keyboard shortcuts and other tips.
recuires a headsett so you can talk to the person youre playing against also though or he talks/explains to you
Its just a suggestion though

For the story i strongly reccomend Homeworld but thats probably a bit too advanced for you
Command and conquer isnt that bad in the story department either
especially if you like what ifs scenarios
But if you struggle alot because you find it hard to learn systems etch or the logic behind real time stategy games it migth be easyer to play in some multiplayer session if you do find some relaxed chill people.
Of course you wont become a world champion at it or beat the koreans probably, they are just People with crazy realtime strategy game experience and will probably beat you in 9 games out of ten in games like starcraft
Probably even more.

If the age has finally cougth up in the reflexes/reaction time and dexterity department i dont have alot of tips other than stretching excercises or excercices that can increase dexterirty or at least slow down the loss of dexerity and reaction time due to age a little bit.
I struggle a bit in platformers or in games i must input alot of commands with buttons/keys at once or in rapid succesions due to this myself

Judging from the games frontpages requirements look ok, I mean 6gb ram et al which is always superb.
Will these rise overtime? What do y'all think?

Thanks! You probably won’t be able to get many player opinions yet. Terra Invicta is being played by some 800 beta testers but is still under an NDA. Alliance had a demo a little while back, but it was still in a rather early state.

Old World, Terra Invicta, and Falling Frontier will be released in Q2 2022 (basically 1 per month). Alliance we haven’t announced a specific release window yet, but that announcement will be soon.

Yep, we were thrilled to get the games on GOG!

The devs are certainly trying to watch performance, and we’ll make sure to keep the system requirements up to date as we approach release.

Tim@HoodedHorse: snip
hey thanks Tim!!
I've been checking streams on some of your planned titles and these games look awesome even for the average joe like me, especially Terra invicta. Loved the score on old world btw.
Terra seems a blend between war of the worlds and suporpower from thq, which is marvelous.
Imho pretty bold move to have four future releases. The more the madder eh ;)

If and only if you have some time left could you care to explain how hooded horse came to be etc?
Honestly curious here!! Thanks ;)

Thank you! Well, a 5th now as well! We announced publishing The Way of Wrath through a trailer on IGN yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l54v7wvWfSk

Sure! We're basically a bunch of strategy game fans (broadly conceived, so including not only grand strategy/4X/RTS but also say tactical CRPGs like The Way of Wrath). I previously had some business experience as a consultant for McKinsey & Co, and one day I showed a good friend of mine the mod I had created for Viking Conquest (https://www.moddb.com/mods/vc-balance-mod). My friend then proposed we create a game company, so we set about doing so. That was about 2 1/2 years ago--there was a lot of setup to get things right. Along the way we've been joined by an additional investor, but basically we've kept things small--all of our shareholders are strategy game fans, and we all have a basic agreement on the kind of company we want to be (from offering developers fair deals to ensuring long term post-release expansion and support for players)

I did an interview earlier today with a YouTuber and discussed the whole range of topics about strategy game publishing, including the founding of Hooded Horse. It will be published on his channel in the next couple of weeks, and I can post it here after it goes live if you are interested. I made sure to talk about how great GOG is during the interview as well. ;)

Breja: I really wish there was a sci-fi strategy like HoMM or Disciples. Turn based, easy to learn, not much focus on economy... sci-fi strategies seem to almost always be these huge, sprawling, super involved behemoths that immediately frighten me off. Real time also, so it can be even more overwhelming.
It's not HOMM-like, but Stars in Shadow is a sci-fi 4x strategy that is very approachable. And its fun has made it become my favorite 4x game. Its economic layer is lighter than most 4x games

So, yeah, I wishlisted all 5 of the titles from this publisher I've never heard of before. (Though previously had heard of Old World itself because of Mohawk.)

Sure, Mr. Tim!! Would love to hear more, definitely. So cool that you guys are bringing your games here and again good luck with the releases and the new sixth title. Wishlisted and notified for sure. Thanks to you and GOG now we can have 'em drm-free.

Gotta be tough to keep things small these days, especially in this business. Lotsa uh.. sharks patrolling these waters.
Again, glad to read that coming from a veteran in the strategy genre. I had my Paradox/Slitherine/Stardock et al (love most of their games) share in the past decade when it came to strategy and currently looking elsewhere... and gosh your titles look so appealing, damn ;)
Again sorry for the wall of text here but it's all genuine so good riddance @ hoodedhorse! Will grab these games for sure. Have a good one! Cheers!
