Good news everyone! (c)
In Australia Department of Communications and the Arts Classification Branch refused classification to a game We Happy Few. According to verdict, the reason for refusing classification (and effectively denying to sell in Australia) is that We Happy Few is one of those kind of games that "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified."

And considering what I know from the news they are right. We Happy Few shows society where everyone wears a happy-face mask and use medication to maintain their belief in propaganda and deny reality, but simultaneously looking for individualls, who are not share common narrative, and hunt them down. Quite offensive to Australia indeed.

The game may be shit but it's starting to get tiresome to hear everything nowadays getting banned, censored etc, don't like it then don't fucking play it but refusing to classify games isn't the the solution even though this has been a long ongoing issue.

Let adults be adults and decide for themselves.

I'm most worried about the possibility that the government might manage to actually enforce something like this. As it is now though, banning digital only games is even more impotent than my tiny penis.

According to people who live in Australia,Steam version We happy few is locked from being playable in their region.

Which is bullshit. If they already own it then it should still be playable / upgradable to 1.0 on release if they bought during Early Access. AKA Valkyrie

Haha, you mean nothing except German machineguns at Gallipoli beach, lol.
They previously banned a game because it involved the "glorification of graffiti":

I don't understand the mentality of "It offends the old shits in the government, so you should also be offended. It's ok, we'll keep you from being offended so you don't have to."

Christ on a crutch. I'll get a couple of keys for our friends down under at some point, because fuck government censorship.

I wonder who these "reasonable adults" are and why they are offended by showing the bad of putting on a happy face. In this case, it's depicted by a drug, but it's no different than rebels refusing to toe the company line or refusing to accept the happy-go-lucky attitude of the face of a government. Hell, the game could take place in N Korea without the drugs. If you don't pretend to accept, you are ostracized, hunted, persecuted and prosecuted.

Same here, it's beyond me how We Happy Few can be "offensive" enough to be complete blocked in Australia, it's utterly pathetic i mean it's a fucking game not meant to be taken seriously and i have watched gameplay of the game and nothing i saw there was anything remotely close to be worth refusing classification of the game over.

It speaks volumes about how those people responsible for this are and personally i would hate (understatement) having them telling me what to play and not play.

It kinda makes me worried when games are starting to get banned here and actual good ones on top of that, it's not like i'm going to pursue a career of a drug lord after playing a game with those themes in it.
