Sachys: Get stabbed?!

THERE IS JUSTICE IN THE WORLD!!!! :D
I hear a lot of stabbings happen in truck stops, particularly with pork swords. :P
avatar
Sachys: out of interest... why is it (in the US at least) people dont bother to walk such short distances?! - that is, I never hear anybody saying "well, it was only a couple of miles so we walked it".
Granted, the UK is more densley populated, but still - you're less likely to get stabbed in the US than... Scunthorpe

tinyE: We get 300 inches of snow a year! You come up here and walk in that! :P
Are you paying for my travel and biometric passport (cant enter the USA without the latter). If so... the bet is on!

I think it's pretty easy to swim into tinye's neck of the woods from Canada without a passport.

But who would want to? :P

ShadowDragon8685: My bank told me that if my debit card numbers got used to charge up any fraudulent activity some fraudster overseas felt like, I was on the hook for it, so I went and explored other options.

PayPal was not a good option for me, or so I thought, so I looked into Paysafecard, and discovered that a truck stop about two and a half miles from my home was a paysafecard vendor. So I figured "Hey, that sounds like a plan."

And now I'm deeply, deeply regretting it.
Hey, sorry to see you're having such a crappy issue with payment. Hopefully it will work out, but in the meantime, if you're interested in a copy of Planescape:Torment (I figure this game should be up your alley, seeing the others you listed in your OP), I happen to have a spare GOG key floating around. Might be a way to get your mind off the crap you're dealing with in regards to Paysafecard.

ShadowDragon8685: I'm seriously incandescent with rage here. Did I miss something about GOG.com not being able to take payment from US-bought paysafecard tickets? Is Paysafecard screwed up somehow? Have I actually been defrauded, and if so, what step(s) should I take to remedy this?
I've never used a "paysafe" card so I couldn't tell you anything on that. I've not had any issues with purchasing either, I guess it's possible there may be a phishing site out there, is your computer infected?

I myself would recommend using a prepaid "My Vanilla MasterCard". I was worried after getting rid of my credit cards I wouldn't be able to purchase from GOG anymore, but I tried it and it works like a charm for me. Once you set up the card they will send you one in the mail of course trying to get you to get a real one, I just burn them. I will warn you in advance though that using this, I do suffer a .50 cent foreign surcharge each time I buy a game, which isn't a big deal for me since I usually buy well below the normal price when games are on sale. Also make sure you read all the details, they also deduct money just for doing a check to see how much money you have on the card, use the myvanilla app if you have a smart phone to check when needed. If you go I think 90 days without using it, they will also start taxing interest to it until it's down to nothing, so just make sure you buy a game or stick of gum at the store or something to make sure they know it's still active. It will also cost you $3 to reload each time, which is a load of bull. But, for me it is worth it to have a credit card without the fear of someone stealing my credit. With all that being said, try this one, or another one that you feel would suit you better, but the vanilla mastercard is the only one I can vouch for working. Just make sure you read the details before purchasing any others. Make sure they will allow foreign transactions and see what the charge on those are and so on.

Ye've never drunk buckfast laddie!

ShadowDragon8685: It isn't, although I underestimated the distance - it was actually four miles. (Just checked on Google Earth.

Because four miles is a pretty long haul on foot, especially both ways, and even if I were up for it (I'm not,) it would take about an hour and a half minimum? Also the only way to get there would have taken me down a busy 50-mph arterial road without any lights or sidewalk.

avatar
budejovice: So I have no experience with paysafe. Sachys' recommendation of paypal without registering is a good solution.

While I'm not a fan of your bank telling you that you'd be liable for fraudulent transactions, at least they thought for a moment and tried to find a solution. If they're up for solution-finding, maybe ask them if they can whitelist foreign transactions only for one specific website, gog.com.
I did. They were entirely unhelpful. Their only options were "Never ever," "Wide open forever," and "wide open for two days." They couldn't whitelist just gog.com, or just the next transaction to Cyprus.

It's like when you buy something at Best Buy and they make you feel bad if you don't buy their extended warranty. They try to prey on people that don't know any better. Get a debit card, be happy, flip off the banker that used scare tactics on you. :P

And on a similar note, do you still pay for an antivirus program?
