According to the release, IFRS 15 revenue is only down by 9.1%; the profit drop is because they've had to impair/write off the R&D spend on Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Not a massive deal -they're still at +€9.3m profit for the half (after that write off).

It looks like uPlay is doing pretty well too - the release implies that the PC growth is great, meaning most of the problems revenue problems would be on the console side of things.

blotunga: Khm Assassin's Creed 2-4, Heroes VI (maybe not because of the conflux crap and dynasty stuff), Heroes VII, M&M X, Anno 2070
To AC3-4, I would add Syndicate and Origins. Both were ok, though the animus crap and not being able to move for “collectibles” - the typical Ubisoft thing - did mar them. Also Far Cry 3 (possibly 4 as well) and Primal were both great.
What would be even better is if they released mod tools for them. Actually being able to mod Black Flag for instance would be excellent. We could finally be able to sail the Caribbean without tripping over fecking chests every 2 seconds.
So that’s what I find missing so much. The first AC I really didn’t like, bad controls. The first Farcry was excellent but nothing like the later ones. And as for the rubbish second one, tried that many times and whilst it is nicer in some ways, even with mods it’s really not good, again bad controls, some bad game mechanisms etc. So GOG ended up with the worse of the ubisoft titles really.

We already have the first AC, but don't have arguably the best in the series, 2...

StingingVelvet: ...but there's no way in hell their revenue is down "94%".

TheMonkofDestiny: Here's a Forbes article that cites ~93%. It also brings up the latest Ghost Recon being a big bomb in terms of operating costs. I'd assume they probably spent more on marketing for it than they did the actual game but I've never played it so that's just an unfair jape at it.

Seems hardly like the end of days for them though. It definitely wouldn't have helped them when they were battling Vivendi's takeover attempt but that's old news.
And lets not forget about EA recent stock drops:

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/electronic-arts-stock-heads-toward-largest-drop-in-more-than-a-decade-after-earnings-miss-2019-02-05

Which might be why they have gone back to Steam with cap in hand (so to speak)?

Anyway i can only hope that the 'monetization' craze that took over the biggest AAA publishers for the last few years has started to show it's 'down' side, they might have milked whales a plenty, but the average gamer just does not have the finnancial resources to throw good money after bad all the time (as monitization etc).

I have not bought a new AAA title in years now, and most of that was down to the shift to loot crates, spam DLC and gaming me for my money. Screw them all imho.

Yep, the first is the worst that I have played in the series. I know most say 2 is the pinnacle of the series, me I think 4 should be, just spoiled by the animus/collectibles. 2 is of course great. 3 I didn’t real feel that one. Syndicate was fun, had some good ideas, nice setting ruined again by constant tripping up over collectibles. If they just put a bit more effort into the world, rather than cut and paste collectibles all over they would be much better games. Odyssey was the worst for this, every area (which you have to do to grind up) had hunreds of the cookie cutter 3-4 encounters. No inventiveness. Fewer handcrafted encounters/collectibles would work far better.

Anyway, above all, provide mod tools!!!!

blotunga: Maybe it's time to look for new revenue streams, like ripping out DRM from their older games and releasing them here :D

Sadly they haven't brought Chaos Theory here or Dark Messiah.
The Quartering ? No thanks.
All of their new games are just the same shit over and over again.
Empty boring open world games filled with timesavers and other disgusting microtransactions.

I hope they go bankrupt (that won't happen sadly) and somebody gets the HoMM license who can make a decent new one.
"The future is in the cloud".

No, you damn corporate assholes. The future is you, just broke. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Crosmando: Maybe people don't want to play the same game over and over again but with a different skin (ie Asscreed & Farcry).
Doubt it. Otherwise other companies would get the same effect, considering across the board you have games like FIFA , Madden, NBA 2K, Call of Duty, which are always the same year in and year out but they sell like crazy and usually also see an increase in microtransaction money.

I think it also has to do with how Ubi overall is:
- Lately most their sequels have been seen as failures, a good example is Division 2, where everybody says it's worse than the predecessor
- Their Season Passes and Deluxe Editions have been called out for just being a massive rip-off, since the bits and peaces of content you get aren't worth the money
- Maybe there's also backlash for them liking Epic so much (Considering Tencent, who own 40% of Epic, also own 5% of Ubi, this isn't a surprise though)

There's a lot wrong with the company. Heck, there always was a lot wrong with Ubi. They were the ones to clinge onto Starforce back in the day, even though it was proven, this intrusive DRM destroys Disc Drives. They started the whole "Always Online" thing in the worst possible ways (Do people remember Assassin's Creed and Silent Hunter back then? Always online, if the connection got interrupted, the games would just terminate itself without saving and of course in the first week nobody could play because the servers were overloaded)

MadalinStroe: I know, right? The same thing happens to me when i misclick on a whatcuture or looper video.
click here for 10 reasons nobody knows why that movie you once saw did not got a sequel
click
see 10 reasons you already knew 10y ago and all of them boil down to "because its shit".

Same with Ubisoft; full circle back to topic :D

GameRager: Jeremy is good for unbiased takes on some things, but he often likes to use hyperbole/clickbait-y titles/thumbnails as well from time to time. Did you watch the video? Does he list any charts/facts to back that number up? Thanks for any info.

Crosmando: Maybe people don't want to play the same game over and over again but with a different skin (ie Asscreed & Farcry).
avatar
GameRager: This depends on the game. I know some(myself included) who love playing more titles in the same series even if they are somewhat similar(genre/look/feel/etc).
No the Quartering Channel run by Jeremy is just a money making stream run by a guy with a degree in marketing, it's all done to create revenue for him- granted some of the things spoken about do deserve attention and I'm not saying everything on the channel is bad for example such as demanding background checks for people who want to work and be left alone with kids at magic the gathering tournaments.

It's just a channel that makes it's money though stirring up shit, of the back of drama, payed manipulations but sometimes there are things spoken about that should be covered and are positive; in conclusion not saying people aren't but make up your own minds and opinions about things and don't follow 'ecelebs.'
I doubt it's a #GamerRevolt, considering how terrible #Gamers are at revolting. I think BreakPoint was just a bad game even for Casual Console users, and The Division 2 was not good enough for players to spend microtransaction money on.

(And the YouTuber/Twitch hivemind was set to "hate" on Breakpoint's release, and individual Tuber and Twitcher agents didn't get paid enough shill dollars)

Also, can we please start basing threads on original news articles rather than on the regurgitated, parroted YouTuber version of it that includes worthless Patos that makes it 50 years longer than the 2 minutes it would take me to read the atticle?

Don't worry, I didn't forget EA. I just made sure to post about them in the two (they're like Gremlins, I guess) EA threads that sprang up over recent days.
