ET3D: Well, for physical games you did own the copy, which you don't with digital games. You had the right to sell that copy for profit. With digital, either GOG or Steam, you don't have the right to sell the copy. In this respect digital lost an important aspect of ownership. Still, on GOG you have more benefits of ownership than on Steam, because you have more freedom of use for your copy.

Gnostic: There are people who sell digital games, with their account and games associated with that account.

And valve reserve the right to close such accounts down, as it is against their SSA. Whether its legal or illegal is neither here nor there because to get one of these purchased accounts back you'd need to take valve to court.

We need clear legal protection for digital ownership. until that happens companies can choose what ever restrictions they want.

That's still not "selling a game", unless you buy each game on a separate account.

Gonen32: You know that feeling when you want to buy a game but it's steam only and you can't wait for it to (maybe) arrive on GOG ?

Yeah.

I'm not one of those anti Steam guys but whenever I can I prefer GOG. What would you do ?
This is a much harder decision when you are on Linux.

And still missing the point VALVe forbids such action.
That
Not only can VALVe close such accounts,
But the owner of the account could claim (may be correctly) that the account had been stolen and regain full control of the account.

That point was made by you. I felt no need to repeat it.

Sorry with this post I thought you where ignoring that you can't sell accounts under Steam's SSA
I don't necessary have a problem with Steam. I have around 900 games on Steam. But, if i have to choose between getting a game on Steam or on GoG, i prefer the GoG version, simply because old games are patched better. Also, for some games, GoG offers extra stuff that Steam does not, like soundtracks, maps, manuals, etc.

Other than that, i'm not bugged by Steam's DRM. It runs smooth enough, never had problems with downloading games or something like it.

All I was saying was that even if you can sell an account (which granted is against the terms of use) you still can't sell games separately. You can't just go "I'm done with this game, let's sell it."

To be honest I didn't have issues with Steams DRM for the first 5 years I used it. It was there in the back ground and didn't get in the way. Even after they stopped the simultaneous use of an account on multiple computer it wasn't that big of an issue because at the time most game were bought on physical media. However now most games are tied to steam and its not just me and the wife playing, Steams DRM is intrusive.
