mad2gamer: I have been Steam user for over 5 years and most of the time download speed is between 1MB/s to 1.4MB/s ...on rare occasion it drops to 500KB/s. With GOG downloads I get max 1.2MB/s but mostly around 300KB/s to 600KB/s and as low as 50KB/s...Considering how many people use Steam, 10-12 Million every day, GOG has no excuse to keep them so low!
I live in Australia and have Cable internet!
So, why is this so?
I'm going to say rather biasedingly, that you are spoiled... :P
I just got my internet fixed and we can get up to 700k/s and it's pretty amazing... and yet... i wasn't missing it when i was only getting 120k/s, rather i probably don't use more than 250k/sec 99% of the time so i don't really see WHY i would need it faster, except we'd always had slower/broken internet so going faster doesn't really change much. The only things it DOES change, is if i download something usually the download caps at 300k/s or so, and my GF can watch her 1-2 live streams at the same time without even noticing i'm hogging nearly half the internet for a few minutes at a time...
The only time you need a high internet speed is if you need something downloaded
RIGHT NOW!!!, otherwise even something a few gigs in size, or several will download overnight if you start the download before going to bed, or before you go to work...
But we live in a world and culture where we want instant gratification, and taking 2 days to cook your food is unheard of anymore and most people would rather drive to the store, buy pizza at a marked up price (
or have it delivered) than take the 15 minutes of actual attention it takes to prep food in bulk. (
My example involves soaking beans in water and then cooking them in a crokpot for a few hours, of which only 15 minutes is actual attention you give the food... And it tastes sooooooo good!)
