Most of the minigames aren't very hard and if they are the game offers to adjust the difficulty (but that makes them way too easy). I would recommend using a controller though, the game was clearly made for consoles.
The one thing that is really bad is the German translation. They exchanged a lot of names and replaced them with German celebrities. Which might have worked when the game was made, but is pretty strange today (because many of them are forgotten by now). Also several lines aren't translated at all or say something completely different than the original.
Also the volume level of the game is very inconsistent. Sometimes it's quite loud, sometimes it's hard to understand anything at all.

Immersive sim is a pretty esoteric term, honestly. I started getting into games like Deus Ex, System Shock, Bioshock or Dishonored long before I remember seeing them labelled that way. It doesn't help that it's easily confused for simulation games despite having nothing to do with them. It's still a label that inherently gets me interested whenever it's used though, since it inherently implies a very complex and ambitious approach to game design. While we're on the topic, Streets of Rogue is a neat one I've been playing lately. Anyway...
bluethief: I played VtM: Bloodlines in May. Up until that point I was always delaying playing it. Immersive Sim, takes a lot of time to beat, etc. How I regret haven't played it sooner. I loved it! If you're like me and are feeling the same about it, don't. Just go play it, it's a great experience. Just don't forget to install the unofficial patch. I might give it a try for an hour or two in that case, and see if I feel like continuing from there. I've always thought the RPG systems looked pretty demanding and time-consuming, more than games I'd usually play anyway.

Huh, what a coincidence... And going from that Wikipedia link, and also from what's in this sale, the term sure seems to be used for something that's entirely different from what I think about when I see the word sim.
Considering that, I stand corrected, definitely fits the description.

I think "immersive sim" is a term that people are now used to, to categorize a set of games that combine a couple of systems: first-person, rpg elements, stealth, choice of how to approach things, etc.
We can probably draw a comparision to the now widely used "souls like" term, that define a (usually) third person action game with some rpg elements, that are know for being challenging.

Just noticed that Second Sight also released on 2004, although GOG lists it as a 2005 title.
I also happens to be the game I've been playing right now. Well, tbh, I'm replaying as I had already played back then when it came out. However, this feels like a first because I remembered almost nothing of it.
I should be finished with it today, so I'll post my thoughts then.

Finished Second Sight.
Like I said, although I had played this in the past, I had no recollection of it, only that it was a third person shooter with psychic powers.
Talking about the negatives first: the shooting mechanics is bad. Whenever you aim, the reticle gets locked into an enemy and then a dot inside it lets you aims freely to any part of the body. However. moving the dot is also bad. It would be much better if it let you aim the reticle at will like any other shooter. I guess this was designed for consoles and they didn't even bother make it better for PC players.
Using the psychic powers that require aiming at something can also be frustrating. Like the shooting, it gets locked at an object and trying to aim at another is not easy.
And last, the game has stealth elements, but in the end it is limited in what you can do. You cannot ghost an entire level, as the game will always force you to engage in combat.
Those were my main issues with the game, but even then they didn't stop me from having a good time with it.
The story is interesting and has you wondering what's going on. It can be a bit confusing but in the end it makes sense, I guess. I believe that some things are left unaswered and the ending is that typical short cutscene type where there's no follow up to the events.
Using the psychic powers are cool too. There are clearly some powers that are meant to be utilised more than others as the game was designed that way. Shame that a sequel never came to be, where it could expand upon these powers.
The game is overall short, 6 to 8 hours to complete, which imo is great as it doesn't overstays its welcome and can be a great game to play for those with more limited time.
All in all, I had a great time with it and recommend it to anyone who likes the genre. To my knowledge, there aren't many games who deal with psychic powers, so if you're interested in messing with some, then play this game. Now if only we could also get Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy to get back on sale...

Yeah it is. I think it's also of a cult classic that never got the recognition it deserved. Back in the day it was heavily compared to Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy due to both being about using psychic abilities.

I've completed Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. It was neither very good nor very bad. Some of the minigames were fun, but they got a little repetitive in the end. Also the later dates were a little underwhelming, seemed they ran out of ideas and so for me lots of the jokes didn't really work. Was much better in the beginning of the game. But maybe the very bad German translation was also part of the problem.
All in all I would say that it was an ok game. Probably disappointing when you expect a traditional Larry game, but quite good when you love minigames and corny jokes.

I never played any Suit Larry game, so I don't have an opinion on it.

There's no problem at all. This thread will still exist after October is finished, so if you happen to play the game in the meantime, you can always post your thoughts afterwards.
