In addition to the mess regarding bad interactions between formatting tags and hyperlink tags, I just made a post where the placement of quotation marks ( " ) seemed to fuck up my post royally until I moved them inside the URL tags. What the fuck is even going on with the site?

Skynet is being born somewhere deep inside Gog's servers.
It is weak now but soon it will begin it's plot to take over the world.
log into gog web games library --> change to classic installer --> click outside the gamecard (close) --> click back into gamecard --> classic installer is wrapped around galaxy installer info i.e. "this installer has galaxy installer"...except it's the classic instaler, so it doesn't.

RainbowDragon: BAD NEWS for all(?) of us who have a huge games library and some games they have not yet downloaded: the "NEW" flag besides (not yet downloaded) games is gone :-(!

I have several games in my library which I got through sales (like Pinata) but which are not really interesting for me so I have decided to download and archive them "later" or occasionaly when I update my gog.com backup hard disk... now they have just removed that flag and only the blue dot for updated games remain... sometimes... I really start to dislike the way gog.com is always changing their website ... how they use cookies to sort the way my games are sorted in the library (hate the grid, prefer the list option, but my browsers are configured to delete all cookies on exit), and of course how they try to force me to use the galaxy installers instead of classic installers (and still offer no option in the account settings to offer non galaxy installers as default)...
To be honest, I've never trusted the GOG website to display those, relying instead on the ability to sort by the purchase date in situations like that.

...but I definitely agree that this is demotivating. GOG and Humble Bundles brought me back to gaming around 2010 and now it's feeling like gaming is dying a second death for me, just as I'm finally starting to get back into playing them to any significant degree rather than being addicted to fanfiction.

*sigh* I suppose I can get back into all of the sci-fi novels I thrifted or picked up used but have yet to read. That's a medium I haven't yet walked far enough down the curve of diminishing returns on to feel demoralized.

eiii: Is that always shown or can you switch it off?
avatar
adaliabooks: Always on as far as I'm aware... though I did think they might be working on changing that nothing has materialised as of yet so I might be wrong.
Oh, only a few years later they already might be working on something which should have been part of the initial design. :P
Privacy is not something which seems to have any priority on GOG. I assume you still also cannot change your nickname for multiplayer games in Galaxy, right?

avatar
adaliabooks: And quite frankly the last thing we need is Gog trying to offer desktop notifications through your browser...
Better not, seeing how "unintrusive" their current implementation already is...
On a second thought, if it would be a desktop notification I at least would be able to switch it off in the browser.

Disclaimer: I hate GOG Galaxy.

Today I checked https://www.gog.com/galaxy ,
and I found that I can not download Mac version directly.

After some googling and digging, I finally get the correct download URL for GOG Galaxy Mac version.
This is very unfriendly for users.
Why end users (not geek I mean) have to download Mac version ONLY on Mac machine?

Wait, what? Below the big "Download Galaxy" button there is a line that says
GOG Galaxy Client requires Windows 7 or newer. Also available for Mac OS X and soon for Linux.
The Mac OS X is a link to the .pkg file.
Or is the line and/or link not there for you?

I had never checked it, but I did now: there's indeed the line you say, but only while the page is loading. After the page is completely loaded, it disappears. Hmmm...

Check your addons. It should still be there.

Edit: There does seem to be some hiding depending on your OS, but the line should still be there, just with switched OS links.

No add-ons active and it still disappears. It must be because I'm on Linux. Not that I'm complaining, but it's no wonder that pro-clients Linux users get pissed at GOG for things like this one (and the lack of Galaxy for Linux, of course).

I can confirm on Windows I get the link to the Mac version too.

See it as a progress, not too long ago GOG did hide even the download button for the Windows version of Galaxy when you were browsing on Linux. :P

This line disappears for me too before I'm even able to read it. But it already has been worse. There were times GOG did bother you with an advertising banner for Galaxy when you were browsing on Linux, but they were hiding even the download button for the Windows version. ;)

What scares me is the "soon for Linux" part in that line. I've learnt to hate Galaxy over the time and I really do not want my Linux games infested by it too... :(

Just a friendly reminder but will this forum ever be fixed? It has been a few weeks since my OP is looking like this:

No need to be scared. I am sure they will also add a classic installer for Linux too - same goes for Mac so that they just have to support 6 different installers. I am confident that this will work without any problems ;)

Cheers for the chuckle.

It's not about the installers. I have no doubt GOG will implement the same double-installer mechanism also for Linux. It's about the games. They will become bloated with additional libraries and dependencies. And you will have to run them in a jail.

HypersomniacLive: Cheers for the chuckle.
If it only wouldn't be so sad...
