ValamirCleaver: I'm not trying to claim that all that is rap, that would be a false equivalency. I was listing small subset of things in rap that interest me. The Slayer reference was because She Watch Channel Zero?! samples Angel of Death, I even cued up the video to start at the part of the song that was sampled instead of the beginning of the performance. Anthrax recorded a cover of Bring the Noise with Public Enemy. Body Count, which is fronted by Ice-T, is a /[url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalcore#Metallic_hardcore_.281990s.29]hardcore band. Obviously the R&B/funk artists to which I linked that have been a source of samples for raps songs are not rap itself nor are groups like Breakestra that play covers of those earlier R&B/funk songs.

Rap itself is as a broad and nuanced as any other genre, and "gangsta rap" is only one subgenre of it. There are plenty of rappers and rap songs that have absolutely NOTHING to do with anything "gangsta", if you'd like to listen?
