We are not talking about first 6 months. We talk about total figures.SC2 sold a total number of 6 mil. so far,Hots sold 1.1 mi. so far and Lotv having same sales as Hots so far. This gives us 8.2 mil so far,its not hard to do the math.SC 1 sold 11.mil as stated before.See the difference?

Hearthstone is just M:tG in Warcraft trappings. Not a original, not a new trick.
HotS: DOTA/LOL for dummies. Not original, not a new trick.
Overwatch: Oh, look, it's a MOBA meets TF2, not original, not a new trick.
You seem to have confused "new genre", as in "a different genre from any of the ones they've worked with before", with "a completely brand new genre that didn't exist before". We're arguing different things here.
Thanks for bringing up Heroes of the Storm by the way, I completely forgot about that one.

Total War series (20 million sold)
Starcraft (1998) itself is the best selling RTS, but Starcraft 2 is not that successful.

For me EA has always been rising and falling , it would be foolish to say they have risen completely nor fallen completely.
Rise:
Anything that's considered ea classics, good nfs titles , burnout , red alert 3, bf 2 etc
Fall
All things that led them to get the worst company award twice, killing studios and classic franchises.
Sadly though recent times i feel ea joined the likes of konami in making good stuff , there isn't a single ea game upcoming that i am interested in sigh....

-_-
SC1 9,500,000 437,000,000 dollars
SC2 8,600,000 542,500,000 dollars
you should consider inflation of 25% from 2000 to 2010
and i doubt SC didnt sell more as Wiki states 11 mil.
SC2 figures are kinda realistic

That doesn't mean that SC2 wasn't a successful game.

MOBA games(DotA, LoL) derived from one map of Starcraft, "Aeon of Strife".
DotA itself is just a scenario of Warcraft III.
Technically, MOBA is a subgenre of RTS.
