hedwards: That's more or less what whataboutism is, her supporters are asking whatabout those other people, which isn't relevant to the question of what the rules is and whether or not she broke the rule.
It is an important thing to discuss as it seems rather penny ante, but that's the rule and she's being paid a ton of money to play the game.
But in this case it's a baseless assumption, so it might be more accurate to call it delusion.
The Japanese player clearly has her number, but rather than accept defeat graciously as a champion, Serena plays the victim of "white oppression" and has a tantrum, and the WTA is going along for the ride.
I guess strong female role models are out. o.O
