Kernel version: Darwin 15.6.0 (15G20015)
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 5000
Graphics driver & version: OS Default
Wine version(s) tested: Wine 3.5 (~3 hrs) and Wine Staging 3.7 (~3 hrs) via Wineskin***
Install Notes: No winetricks or adjustments in winefcg/regedit are necessary — it just works. (Barring issues noted below)
How Well Does It Run: Out of the box the game runs perfectly (Barring issues noted below) at 640 x 480. You can change the resolution by going to regedit and going to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC/Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer/v1.0
Edit the values for “Display Height” and “Display Width” as desired. You may experience some issues related to HUD stretching and aspect ratio differences (e.g. when viewing your podracer upgrades, the graphics for your upgrades don’t line up with the boxes they are supposed to appear in).
To enable additional graphics options, go to GOG Games/STAR WARS Racer/data/config/current/video.cfg and change the options as per
GeekGamer’s post.
The game still suffers from two minor bugs: Bug #419047 (url=
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41047) and Bug #13859 (
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13859). For the former bug, the issues mentioned in that thread still apply, and for the latter bug, using the Native Mac Driver had no effect. Both of these bugs do not have any impact on game play. I did not encounter
Bug #12915.
On my computer (2013 11.6” MacBook Air), the game ran perfectly at 1366x768 resolution with no graphical issues, or slowdowns. However, I have tested neither gamepad compatibility (which seems to be causing issues for Windows players) nor multiplayer. I also have not tested Helix’s Mod (
http://helixmod.blogspot.ca/2018/05/star-wars-episode-i-racer.html), which uses DX11 and dgVoodoo.
***The game works perfectly using both the original default 2.6.2 Wineskin Wrapper, and Gcenx's unofficial
2.6.5 Wineskin Wrapper update.
