JudasIscariot: Will that patch that you posted conflict with Wine 1.9.4?
avatar
Gydion: Not at all as it was applied the day after the initial pulse patch. It's already in Wine 1.9.4. It's failing as the PULSE_LIBS variable is empty. If I knew how to read a configure file I might know why. As I don't I'm guessing it's a 32-bit on 64-bit issue (not to mention that's the usual culprit). PULSE_LIBS is the linker flags; random searching later and configure completes. Let me see if it compiles...

It did! Failed on install though. This however seems to work:

./configure --with-pulse --disable-tests "PULSE_CFLAGS=-lpulse" "PULSE_LIBS=-lpulse" --prefix="$HOME/sommelier/pulse-wine-1.9.4"
avatar
Gydion: Left out the -lpulse first time around and skip the -m32.
Does that give you 32-bit libpulse support or 64-bit? That command seems to have worked for me, I think.

As for the arch issue, I made sure to have the 32-bit version installed so I have no idea why configure insists on failing.

It could just be a bug. Pulse was added about four months ago now so I would have thought someone would have noticed. I presume building biarch works though I haven't tried it.

avatar
JudasIscariot: Well, configure sees pulse.h (I'll post a configure.log later), I have libpulse0 and libpulse-dev 32-bit libs installed and Wine 1.9.4's ./configure says "No, you do not have anything!" hence my confusion.
So, safe to say 32-bit. ;) Alternatively, from the build directory: objdump -f dlls/winepulse.drv/winepulse.drv.so

Dumb question: that winepulse.drv.so gets made after make / make install or before?

First time seeing this thread, and here I briefly thought this was about the actual apostle trying to run games in actual wine.
Game: Risen 2: Dark Waters Gold Edition
Installer MD5s:

WineHQ AppDB link: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=14177
CodeWeavers link: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/risen-2-dark-waters

Distro: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit
Kernel version: 3.19.0-51
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 361.28
Wine version(s) tested: Wine Staging 1.9.3 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.0.1

Install notes: Requires d3dx9 and d3dcompiler_43 (install DirectX 9 Modern in CrossOver)
If using PlayOnLinux, run the game from/create a shortcut for "Risen.exe"
How well does it run: Quite well
Details:
From what I've played so far it generally works well. The videos played when you start the game don't work (sound only, no video) and I encountered some minor issues with shadows in indoor areas (may be driver related as I don't remember this happening before), but graphics and gameplay appear to be completely fine otherwise. Tested at 1920x1200 with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled. If running the game with virtual desktop enabled, you must also set "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows".

JudasIscariot: I am testing out Ubuntu 15.10 and trying to compile Wine 1.9.4 with Pulse Audio support.
Compiling a 32-bit wine under a 64-bit Ubuntu is for some reason so complicated that the instructions on Wine wiki recommends building it in a 32bit lxc container.

I'm not entirely on the clear why, it wasn't that hard on Red Hat, but I can't be bothered to find out either. Building in a container works just fine even though it's not the most elegant solution.

JudasIscariot: Dumb question: that winepulse.drv.so gets made after make / make install or before?
You will see it after make if it successfully built it. I didn't think you usually ran make install? Is it not there for you? Passing the pulse flags to configure should have generated a Makefile from the Makefile.in in the pulse directory. Assuming you have the Makefile yet winepulse.drv.so isn't there, cd to winesrc/dlls/winepulse.drv/ and run make clean followed by make to more readily see any errors.

Too late. He's already built it. Just the Wine pulse driver was not wanting to pass the configure checks.

Run the game from/create a shortcut for "Risen3.exe"
How well does it run: Quite well
Details:
Videos do not play (startup logos / menu background / credits), otherwise game appears to run fine however I have only played for a short while. Tested at 1920x1200 almost max settings (DoF & AA off, shadows to high) with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled and Windows version set to Windows 7. If running the game with virtual desktop enabled, you must also set "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows".

Here are my two requests (which I've mentioned in other threads):

Shante and the Pirate's Curse
Guacamelee: Super Championship Turbo Edition

I'd also like to add to that Super Time Force. I've read people on the Steam forums and on the Porting Kit forums have had success with running it in WINE and Crossover, but their details were frustratingly vague (they say to install Steam, but installing Steam via Winetricks didn't help the game run; I'd just like to know what dependencies I need to install in Winetricks). I downloaded a torrented* version to test it out for myself but the game seems to quit with the same error reported here.

(*And yes, after my testing, I tossed the file I downloaded.)

I always overkill :P install almost everything :D DX9 Corefonts (DX9 I normally do a full install, using Jun2010) and install all the redist that comes with the game.

I personally use PoL with a few "default" wineprefixes, with certain default stuff installed. so I tend to move the file around until I get it to run. For steam games that I own (and want to play regularly) I've ditched steam and use SSE (only problem with SSE, is no card drops and time tracking on your profile. Plus point is , no need for it to phone home, LAN/Multiplayer works (most of the time) and if steam goes belly up no need to panic, as the games is setup in such away that it's really drm-free :D )

I ran innoextract on the installer because for some reason it just up and quits without installing the game on Fedora 23. (wine-1.9.4-staging is what my current distro keeps installing...)

Here's what I saw inside:

vcredist_x86_2010.exe
vcredist_x64_2010.exe
directx_Jun2010_redist.exe

So it looks like you should start with vcrun2010 and either d3dx9 or some other DirectX-related winetrick :)

Never really got into RPM based distros. Arch Linux next? Also, that's old as Wine 1.9.5 is out.

So, I decided to play around with adding gstreamer support on my jesse based system. I ran into the same problem. Turns out it's not a Wine bug. Workaround is to specify the i386 pkgconfig directory when you run ./configure. It will then find and build both pulse & gstreamer with the correct flags. The PULSE_CFLAGS was at least non-optimal if not wrong. E.G. Mint 17.3:
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pkgconfig ./configure --with-pulse --disable-tests --prefix="$HOME/sommelier/pulse-wine-1.9.5"

DX9 didn't work, and I assumed that Wineskin on OS X installs corefonts by default, but come to think of it, that may not be the case.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to keep it in mind next time I see Super Time Force at a 75% discount. :)

Just distro hopping :)

As for Fedora 23, it insists on installing compiled Wine into /usr/local/bin. Meh.
