It could just be a bug. Pulse was added about four months ago now so I would have thought someone would have noticed. I presume building biarch works though I haven't tried it.

From what I've played so far it generally works well. The videos played when you start the game don't work (sound only, no video) and I encountered some minor issues with shadows in indoor areas (may be driver related as I don't remember this happening before), but graphics and gameplay appear to be completely fine otherwise. Tested at 1920x1200 with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled. If running the game with virtual desktop enabled, you must also set "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows".

Compiling a 32-bit wine under a 64-bit Ubuntu is for some reason so complicated that the instructions on Wine wiki recommends building it in a 32bit lxc container.

I'm not entirely on the clear why, it wasn't that hard on Red Hat, but I can't be bothered to find out either. Building in a container works just fine even though it's not the most elegant solution.

You will see it after make if it successfully built it. I didn't think you usually ran make install? Is it not there for you? Passing the pulse flags to configure should have generated a Makefile from the Makefile.in in the pulse directory. Assuming you have the Makefile yet winepulse.drv.so isn't there, cd to winesrc/dlls/winepulse.drv/ and run make clean followed by make to more readily see any errors.

Too late. He's already built it. Just the Wine pulse driver was not wanting to pass the configure checks.

I'd also like to add to that Super Time Force. I've read people on the Steam forums and on the Porting Kit forums have had success with running it in WINE and Crossover, but their details were frustratingly vague (they say to install Steam, but installing Steam via Winetricks didn't help the game run; I'd just like to know what dependencies I need to install in Winetricks). I downloaded a torrented* version to test it out for myself but the game seems to quit with the same error reported here.

(*And yes, after my testing, I tossed the file I downloaded.)

I always overkill :P install almost everything :D DX9 Corefonts (DX9 I normally do a full install, using Jun2010) and install all the redist that comes with the game.

I personally use PoL with a few "default" wineprefixes, with certain default stuff installed. so I tend to move the file around until I get it to run. For steam games that I own (and want to play regularly) I've ditched steam and use SSE (only problem with SSE, is no card drops and time tracking on your profile. Plus point is , no need for it to phone home, LAN/Multiplayer works (most of the time) and if steam goes belly up no need to panic, as the games is setup in such away that it's really drm-free :D )

Never really got into RPM based distros. Arch Linux next? Also, that's old as Wine 1.9.5 is out.

So, I decided to play around with adding gstreamer support on my jesse based system. I ran into the same problem. Turns out it's not a Wine bug. Workaround is to specify the i386 pkgconfig directory when you run ./configure. It will then find and build both pulse & gstreamer with the correct flags. The PULSE_CFLAGS was at least non-optimal if not wrong. E.G. Mint 17.3:
