StingingVelvet: Fair enough. The focus for me was saying "extremists on both sides." Very few media types are saying this, they all keep acting like they have to choose a side and then agree with everyone on that side. It's just like political news. It drives me crazy.
It's gotten a bit extreme, especially if you see how people have run to the news. They've taken to using it as a tool to bully, and there are people in all cases that try to do that, try to shut people down for having views that others don't like. If I think there is one positive that Gamergate has had it has shined a light on that, it's shed a light on the parts of the media even the media doesn't want others to see. And so they fight back, they make it easy to label, to hate, and sure, I'll be the first to say that there are people under the Gamergate tag that might be using it for the wrong reason even if they believe in the goal, because the Ends will NEVER justify the means. I will do my best to stop those as I see it.
I'm scared that as this comes out, it's going to become like political speech, and that scares me how people shout down opposing viewpoints. THAT'S what Freedom of Speech protects, it doesn't have to protect the popular speech because it's popular. But it does need to protect the speech that isn't popular, that shines that light on people that they don't want to see. And honestly, as long as you're not lobbying for bullying, for harassment, for hurting people because of their beliefs, I really don't care what you say. You can worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or hell you can worship a Meme for all I give a fuck, marry who you want because that's none of my business to stop, do what you want in life because it's too damn short to fight and argue all the time, but I will draw the line when people are stopping opinions they don't like because they don't like them.
