WBGhiro: I had no internet for 4 weeks, is gaming saved? did we win?

CthuluIsSpy: Nope. Still fighting.

This has become the First World War of the Internet.
Not really sure that apart from English speaking countries (and Germany) the rest of the world actually cares according to google trends:

I doubt they do, which is funny to me. It really has become pretty fucking ridiculous.\\

But hey, I've been passing this link around, so here [Edit, taken down, LONG story, read below]. I've been enjoying the comments.

Yes we win. Gamers cant be called dead as long as we play games... how silly was that stupid campaign against gamers anyway... I feel very much alive... or maybe I´m undead by now... who knows....

This was linked in that article, and it's definitely worth a look to anyone "interested" in Anita Sarkeesian.

I really liked Jeff Gerstmann's editorial on Giant Bomb. That's pretty much how I feel. "Stop being extremists on both sides! And of course stop threatening women or defending it! Now can we play some video games? Thanks!"

Wish more people were saying that.

Saying what? "Now can we play some videogames?" I'm honestly sick to death of people whipping this old dismissal out any time others are discussing (or angrily debating, if you prefer) something they don't care about.

That said, both sides of Gamergate could certainly use a healthy dose of "calm the fuck down."

EDIT: And I have realized this probably wasn't a fair response. "Let's just all forget about it and play videogames" is just a pet peeve of mine :P

A completely inane statement. He might as well have said nothing.
"the violence against women is unacceptable and we cannot support it, but we will not financially support people who insult our customers either"

"you should expect to see strategic changes in how we spend in coming years. It is very much an open question inside the company and we are watching closely."

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-London/2014/10/21/Incredibly-GamerGate-is-winning-but-you-won-t-read-that-anywhere-in-the-terrified-liberal-media

"Journalists of all stripes are on notice that they can no longer blithely insult and ridicule their own readers without consequence."

"Video games journalists and others elsewhere in the media have only themselves to blame for all this. Rather than apologising and resolving to make amends to readers, they dug their heels in and spread further lies about the people who put bread on the table."

Fair enough. The focus for me was saying "extremists on both sides." Very few media types are saying this, they all keep acting like they have to choose a side and then agree with everyone on that side. It's just like political news. It drives me crazy.

Yeah, it's a shame that moderate voices rarely get heard or acknowledged. I guess they aren't as "exciting" as the fanatics :P

It's gotten a bit extreme, especially if you see how people have run to the news. They've taken to using it as a tool to bully, and there are people in all cases that try to do that, try to shut people down for having views that others don't like. If I think there is one positive that Gamergate has had it has shined a light on that, it's shed a light on the parts of the media even the media doesn't want others to see. And so they fight back, they make it easy to label, to hate, and sure, I'll be the first to say that there are people under the Gamergate tag that might be using it for the wrong reason even if they believe in the goal, because the Ends will NEVER justify the means. I will do my best to stop those as I see it.

I'm scared that as this comes out, it's going to become like political speech, and that scares me how people shout down opposing viewpoints. THAT'S what Freedom of Speech protects, it doesn't have to protect the popular speech because it's popular. But it does need to protect the speech that isn't popular, that shines that light on people that they don't want to see. And honestly, as long as you're not lobbying for bullying, for harassment, for hurting people because of their beliefs, I really don't care what you say. You can worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or hell you can worship a Meme for all I give a fuck, marry who you want because that's none of my business to stop, do what you want in life because it's too damn short to fight and argue all the time, but I will draw the line when people are stopping opinions they don't like because they don't like them.

Jefe, ill be honest here, though it's not in my best interests. You have been climbing in my esteem steadily recently. You might think that's good, but I feel somewhat ashamed that my superficial impression of you was lower. I know heuristic judgements are natural, but still...

The series of articles you have posted is great. Big thank you for posting. I've finished the first part and about to start the rest, as well opened the Bioshock Infinite material referenced. Kudos.

Well, I'm glad your opinion is improving, rather than the opposite!
